Dr. David Owen Clayton, MD

He is really bad at diagnosing complicated issues, especially when ADHD is combined with other issues like anxiety or sleep problems. All he did with my son was prescribe medicine for ADHD and keep increasing the dose without answering any of our questions. All he cares about is adding more sessions and keeping increasing the dose for the same medicine that does not work.

I've been seeing Doctor Clayton for almost 10 years now as an adult (referred by my primary care doctor). My bipolar was starting to shift, and there were a lot of medications from multiple doctors some of which were impacting each other mood wise. He was able to stabilize the meds and work with my primary care doctor to come up with the best combination in conjunction with my other medical conditions. He is very aware of contraindications and also supports implementing behavioral strategies to reduce dependence on medicines. When there is nothing going on, we meet every 3 - 6 months for med management. In addition, we have also worked through therapeutic sessions when issues from my past surface, or external situations factor in as frequently as every two weeks when necessary, until we've resolved / identified strategies to face or address them. He's never been judgemental, but has helped me find my path during those times. He is responsive to emails when updates are needed… between visits, or potential changes in situations come up. He is very aware of my history over all that time, is able to relate things I say back to previous situations and similar solutions. I would (and have) recommended him to friends when family needs require it.

Horrendous practitioner and worst excuse of a medical doctor. I rarely write reviews, but feel obligated to the public to warn them of this unsympathetic, egotistical, money-sucker. Completely incompetent to say the least - really deserves zero stars:

He is rude, arrogant, does not care about your kid at all. He does more damage than he helps.

If you are the parent of an adolescent or younger child seeing a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with Dr. Clayton.....Run the other way....Besides his arrogance and poor bedside manner, as noted above, he will take notes as you talk, on his I-pad, change his hearing aid battery during your session, charge you $700.00+, not to mention a $75.00 charge for 15 min. of phone time outside of your session (a real red flag), refer you within his practice, to keep you coming back, and if this isn't bad enough,provide you with no working diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or a written evaluation of his impressions. One has the the feeling as if "the meter is running."

Can be condescending and arrogant which gets in the way of getting help! Needs to re-tool his "bedside manner".

I have been in this area 10 years and it took me 6 years to find Dr. Clayton. The first two were just okay but he listens to what I have to say and I feel like we make decisions about my care together.
