Dr. David Joel Elpern, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Elpern for many years. He is kind and genuinely concerned about the well-being of his patients. He has helped me out tremendously over the years. He first helped me with acne in my teenage years. When I was in my early twenties, I started having horrible reactions/rashes on lips. They would get deep red in color, blotchy, develop tiny water blisters, etc. It was very painful and made me very self conscious. I had been to multiple doctors before Dr. Elpern and they said it was an allergy and to figure it out by process of elimination. One doctor suggested that I must chew on pen caps or foreign objects and not realize it! Dr. Elpern helped me find answers. He referred me to Tufts in Boston for patch testing. He took a biopsy of my lip to make sure it wasn't anything serious. He gave me product suggestions, answered emails when I was having an occurrence and always made time for me to come in and see him.His patience and persistence paid off. I found out that I was… allergic to the metal retainer that I was wearing to bed some nights to keep my teeth straight after having braces. I also learned that I have a lot of sensitivities to product ingredients such as lip glosses and tooth pastes. I have been able to keep my lips clear for years now! I recommended Dr. Elpern to everyone after my experience with him. Last year I noticed some pigmentation on the inside of my bottom lip. I showed Dr. Elpern at my next visit and he said he didn't think it was something to be concerned about but we should watch those spots. I asked him why and he said that there is a rare disease that causes pigmentation in the mouth and cancerous polyps throughout your intestines. This concerned me as my father passed away at 53 from colon cancer. Dr. Elpern knows that I have anxiety and this really freaked me out. He was able to refer me to Gastroenterologist. I had asked my primary care doctor to refer me to one for years because of my family history but he kept telling me to wait until I was 50 and that if I had no symptoms, I didn't need to worry. Well, at age 32 I had my first colonoscopy thanks to my dermatologist. I had 4 cancerous polyps removed and now have to go every 3 years. If it was not for Dr. Elpern bring so cautious and educated, I would not have gone until I was 50. I cannot thank this man enough!

Dr. Elpern's skills are readily apparent; his manner exhibits concern for the patient and thorough analysis; Dr. Elpern's office is very well organized and his staff is friendly and helpful. In short he is the ideal professional - what every Dr. could well emulate.

As someone from the medical field, such as you are, I would not think it mattered where a person was from. As I remember, not to long ago , a certain hospital closed and the Dr.s and Nurses here in Vt. took on an influx of people on the behalf of the State of Massachusetts. You people are rude and in no doubt of my mind IGNORANT !!!!!!!!!!

For years I suffered from a condition that everyone just called heat rash. I was given meds that did not work and told that I was just not using sunscreen and was suffering from sun poisening. Dr. Elpern realized what I had right away and not only gave me the right meds but helped me take the right steps in preventing it in the future. I drove 4 hours (from NYC) to see him and I would do it again in an instant.
