Dr. David Matthew Gabel, MD

Dr. Gabel is grandmother's primary care doctor. She has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s years ago. Someone always accompanies her to ALL appointments for the past couple years now. We appreciate doctor Gabel is very thorough and understands he must be very detailed, not only for insurance purposes as there are some questions that seem so obvious but, he must verbal ask and review in order to get insurance to approve items, like walker with seat. If he didn't do so we would have had to pay out of our own pocket to cover items like such. So we are so thankfull he follows all the rules, as this is reassuring knowing he is also just as thorough in reviewing all her other doctors orders and notes to keep everyone on the same page. It is difficult to keep all doctors on the same page and some are not as good as others forwarding information to Dr. Gabel as her primary doctor, but he does a great job reaching out and going above and beyond, I feel to make sure to be informed so he may… review and follow-up if there are any issues. Including he recognized very low heart rate and a medication another doctor was ordering was contributing... We also appreciate his ability to be very clear in explaining issues, he is very matter factual, but I appreciate as I would rather have an understanding and know our options. Knowing what to expect as she ages is also important to us... somethings including heart condition is just nice to know options, and we are able to know what to expect. In several areas, including dermatology, orthopedic, and cardiovascular it also helped to understand if we preferred more invasive options, (which normally the specialists seem to recommend), are not the only options especially due to her age and consideration of possible increased pain (which for her is very difficult and effects her cognitively). Knowing keeping her healthy, active, comfortable, and mental healthy are the priorities (and have increased her quality of life to enjoy these years.) It's not easy entrusting another with the care of a loved one. I will agree with in a couple other reviews in part, Dr. Gabel's very direct, and matter fact personality may not be what everyone prefers, but I personally, would any day take a doctor that is thorough, direct, knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond then a doctor that is charismatic. It has not been an easy task getting a doctor that follows everything required to work with, insurance, the care facilities, all specialty clinics and guardianship. The easy route would of been to go with the inhome, nurse practitioner that the care facility perfered to over see all her care, but that care was less then desirable... I will say, if we stayed with Metro care out of convenience, and "bedside manners", and appearance, a few years ago, I do not believe Grandmother would have the quality of life she has now, and possibly would not be still moving and grooving. Truly appreciate the very thorough care Dr. Gabel's team provides.

My mother is 88 yrs old and had doctored with previous doctors no longer at this clinic with complete confidence and satisfaction. However, I began going to her appts with her as her health needs increased. After her congestive heart failure, her cardiologist referred her back to her general doctor (Gabel). He was so uninterested and dry, I was concerned about his true care ability for her needs. He didn’t even act like he heard her concerns as she talked to him, rarely even looking at her, like ‘well you are just old and that’s how it is attitude’. She then had a spell where cardiologist wanted her to use cane then extreme dizziness and difficulty breathing, walking 10’. She called his office and his nurse said HE wanted to know why she needed one and with seat AFTER he diagnosed her with vertigo and she told him before how easily she gets tired and out of breath just walking across her apartment (Meadow Glen Senior Living) when going to dining room, having to stop, catch her breath.… I do not feel he is at all in tune with her needs. I would NOT recommend him.
