Dr. David Mark Gudeman, MD

Prescribed a lot of medications. Never allowed refills always required an appointment so he could Charge. Often. Left you in waiting room for hours. On one occasion he simply didn't come in and several of us were standing outside trying to figure out if anyone was coming in

Having his business closed has been a great loss to the community.

My family and I have been seeing dr. Gudeman for many years. I saw him from the ages of 11-15 years old and I only had to stop because I moved away. but after several cruddy doctors, and hospital visits, I returned quite a few years later and it was well worth the bus trip. I have seen many different psychiatrists since I was in 4th grade. All of the others were just terrible. My only personal complaint with Gudeman is probably your complaint, and for me that is with all psychiatrists -- they are there to prescribe meds and that's their job. I find it hard to trust these people. It's irritating when the doctors giving you DRUGS don't truly care about you or what you have to say and to top it off the appointment itself is over in 5 minutes. how is that supposed to help the patient? It's deeply frustrating and discouraging, and it's just a total waste of resources and when you discover week after week after week that nothing is working. But Dr.G was different because that was… not how he did things. he would always firmly shake my hand at the start and end of each appointment; he actually took the time to listen and respond to me and my concerns; he never judged me or my personal problems or my attitude or anything; he was never dismissive or rude or insulting to my intelligence or emotions; we would have very interesting and enlightening and honest discussions as he explained to me just how my mental conditions and medications worked in my brain and body and how the human brain worked in general, so I could really understand what I was dealing with and it was suuperr helpful (no doc has ever given me the courtesy of explaining those things to me, they just expect me to do everything they say without asking questions); the appointments were never rushed; he gave me the time and attention and respect I needed from a doc who was prescribing me the kind of DRUG TREATMENT I need. I trusted him and respected and appreciated him and his practice. During the year I was re-treated by him, he stabilized me, and I also became more insightful, among other positive things, thanks to his own insight and his generous therapy-type sessions. I'm really disappointed to see him go. Now I have to find another psychiatrist as good as he was or better asap. Very hard to come by and I highly doubt I'll find anyone else who can understand my crazy family enough to also understand me.

Although it is sad that it had to come to him losing his license, all I can say is that things happen for a reason, but my husband who had been seeing him for a while has decided he will no longer be taking those addictive meds he was given by this Dr. which caused him a visit to the E.R due to complications from those meds. If he had been doing his job right he wouldn't be giving out certain meds from the request of his patients. He is the doctor he should know what is best not the patient. If you asked for something he would give it to you, I did NOT like that!!! At least from this I get a relief and so does my husband.

Has helped me deal with my problem and I am happy with him. Can't say anything negative

I have been a patient of Dr. Gudeman for over 3 years. I suffer with extreme depression. Since I started treatment with him, heâ??s helped me immensely. Heâ??s helped me with issues that Iâ??ve not been able to figure out for years. My friends and family have notice a significant difference in my personality, life style, and behavior. Iâ??ve treated with many doctors in the past, and I can honestly say heâ??s the first one that has made a difference in my life.

My daughter was diagnosed with bi-polar and schizoaffective disorder at age 13. She has been to a number of different psychiatrists over the years. Dr. Gudeman has been the best to date. He seems to understand her illness, sees it as something to be "treated" and listens to her, adjusts her medications as needed, and treats her in a respectful manner. He treats her "mental illness" as any doctor would treat any other "illness" so she does not feel the stigma of mental illness but sees it as something chronic that she must manage and stay on top of. We are very pleased with this doctor and his approach to treating illnesses of the brain.

I have been seeing Dr. Gudeman since 2011. I had come from Kaiser Permante in Woodland Hills and had not been functioning too well for years, ie. sleeping alot, surpressed feeling and emotions and not functioning to the best that I should have been, then my insurance changed and my life changed for the better with the help of Dr. Gudeman. Then in 2013 I lost my health insurance and he has helped me to stay on track and has done a wonderful job. I will really miss him and his office.

I can not say enough to express my appreciation and gratitude for the care I've received from Dr. Gudeman. I've been a patient for over 7 years. He has treated my many complex health problems with excellent results. He is professional and genuinely concerned for my welfare. I have chronic pain from Psoriatic arthritis that my rheumatologist has been unable to treat. I also have a seizure disorder that he, not my neurologist found the effective medication for. He is aware of and makes sure the other medications do not exacerbate this difficult disorder. He effectively treats the depression and anxiety I have from these ailments, as well as the pain I have from numerous traumas in the past. He cares for all of this while not aggravating the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) I've suffered at the hands of other doctors who were dispensing NSAIDs, not the pain medication which also keeps that problem in control. Dr. Gudeman effectively treats all my medical problems with no side… effects or risky procedures. This gives me quality of life that no other doctor has provided. He makes sure that all the proper testing is done and receives all records from my other doctors to best manage my health. If Dr. Gudeman will not be allowed to continue his practice, I will suffer devastating medical consequences; including anxiety , depression and pain that may induce the seizures that have been controlled for many years. I would hope that the recent political outcry about inappropriate opiate use will not prevent it's use as a legitimate pain medication.

Dr. Gudeman has treated two of my children who suffer with complicated and difficult to treat psychiatric ailments. He has treated me for an anxiety disorder. We have been patients for about eight years. There are insufficient words to describe the loss suffered by our family, and the community, caused by the closure of his practice. We have seen many other psychiatrists who gave us no hope and inadequate or disinterested treatment. Dr. Gudeman displays interest in each patient, is open long hours, and has even answered his own phone when I have called in distress at 7 in the morning, without an appointment. Each day he leaves time in the early morning to see those without appointments. I have never met a doctor in any field of specialty with more commitment, compassion, and interest in his patients. As a patient, I felt we were a team. He listened to my symptoms, and any side effects I was having from medication, and prescribed accordingly. He made changes until he found just… the right amount and type of medication to help me maintain an even emotional state so I would be able to function in life and be of help to my family. I feel Dr. Gudeman is irreplaceable. With very little notice all his patients must now search for an adequate doctor who will not only carry on the treatment plan designed by Dr. G, but have the skill and INTEREST to make changes to keep the symptoms of disease at bay. I am angry that my child, on whom two other doctors gave up entirely and told me to institutionalize, needs to begin another doctor search, after thriving under Dr. Gudeman's care - my child is now employed and living a fully functional life, all due to Dr. Gudeman. No other doctor we saw even believed such management was possible. Dr. G has given us the science of medicine by practicing it as an art - with thought for the individual and without taking away the hope of the patient. This is a rare quality in any doctor. Removing him from practice is a loss to us individually, and certainly a loss to the community, if those patients whom are now untreated, or who have such faith in Dr. G that they refuse treatment elsewhere, become dependent on the state or become homeless. This is not imagination, this could actually happen. I am distressed over what I perceive as an unfair and hasty decision by the medical board to force the closure of Dr. Gudeman's practice. It seems overreaching and overreacting to a few complaints from the thousands he has treated. Of course, a certain percentage of patients will always complain.
