Dr. David Shawn Harvey, MD

Was my dads doctor at Grandview and a total joke. Kept dad so medicated he was basically comatose and a zombie. Had to go to court to get dad out of the Psyche unit.

He was my moms dr in Alabama. Was awful rude and didn’t take care of anything We went to UAB and they helped her. He didn’t listen to anything and she has been in and out of hospitals her whole life. They let her lay in a diaper and she was capable of getting out of the bed. I can’t believe he is a doctor. I guess he has to move to get away and start over and ruin others lives.

After a couple of yrs. of over prescribing and not properly assessing a family member, they ended up in the hospital and he never called back . Then turned them away when they show up for their appointment to ask why the over prescribing. This person should not be “practicing” bc that is far from what he does. He could care less. Do not let your loved ones in his hands.

The man is not your everyday commonplace rocket scientist, but HE WILL, YES, DO! I love him!!! MD FOR LIFE! A giant teddy bear!

I have been a patient of Dr. Harvey for this past year. He is a very good doctor, the best psychiatrist I have ever had. I have suffered from anxiety and depression for many years. As I have grown older I began to have difficulty in sleeping. He has helped me not only with the anxiety and depression but also with sleeping. I have really come to appreciate his kindness and compassion.

I have no complaints with this Dr. He is not a pill peddler.He is caring,but firm. He expects you to do as told.He will not have you running around high. He will find you MEDICINE compatible with your system. I

After a typical wait of 1 1/2 hours to see him, I dared to question Dr. Harvey about why his patients had to wait so long. His was response was "I'm a busy Dr.". I said that I just thought he could help me understand what the problem was. He replied, "Why don't you let me worry about my schedule?" in a very angry tone. I said and laughed, "really, are we going there?" He said , "How about let's just go over how you are feeling." I said, "How about let's not." He said OK we won't, he referred me to a different psychiatrist (which I won't go to because I don't trust his referral) and he said "I'm still charging you for this visit." And I said "Fine" to avoid any further confrontation. I am sick and tired of doctors who have no respect for their patients time and think they don't even owe them the tiniest explanation.

Blindly treats patients without reading previous chart and gaining information.Refused to sign Prior Authorization form for patient's drug prescribed, causing patient to go through several psychotic episodes. Ignored severe allergic reactions. Would not meet with family and explain his new diagnosis. Does not return phone calls. Would commonly get " Dr. Harvey doesn't make calls, he wouldn't have time for a social life." Very Unprofessional , since he doesn't like people, perhaps he would be better suited for a bar room bouncer...... That seems to be the role he plays best. Dangerous and Neglectful, Abandons patients and their families.

Dr. Harvey prescribes the appropriate medications while working collaboratively alongside colleagues, like a NP, a therapist, etc. They communicate working closely in order to provide the proper treatment, HIS job is literally to oversee the medications that are relative to the patient's treatment plan. His role is not to spend much time talking about things, other than very very basic details and mainly medication side effects , improvements, needing adjustments, etc . He is a little on ghe blunt side sometimes. It took me a few visits with him to understand his role, and how to work with him. No doctor is perfect, and no one doctor is right for everyone. We all have different preferences. As far as my review, I am forever grateful for Dr. Harvey. He prescribes the appropriate medications that I literally, genuinely need. I never feel pushed or pressured to hurry up and taper off a medication that I know for a fact I will need to be on for the rest of my life. He does have extensive… knowledge, he is not afraid to help people suffering with genuine mental health issues. It's imperative to understand the different roles of a psychologist, psychiatrist (Harvey) , therapist, etc. The psychiatrist is the prescribing portion of the collaborative treatment plans.

Dr. Harvey was so unprofessional. He acted like a teenage girl, very moody. He seems to have some personal issues going on that may need to be handled before he can properly handle anyone else's issues. I feel like he only wants to write prescriptions and doesn't really care about helping his patients. I would never recommend him. He has no business working with people in fragile conditions.
