Dr. David Michael Heyer, MD

I did not see Dr. Heyer and have never met him. These comments are related to how my scheduled appointment with him was handled. It seemed to me that his office staff was too eager on registering new patients. The biopsy results were expected on Friday. I had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Heyer a few weeks in advance in case biopsy results showed that I should see Dr. Heyer. I called them on Wednesday to say I wanted to postpone the appointment until after the biopsy results were in. If tests were negative for cancer, there would be no need to see Dr. Heyer. But his office assistant insisted that I see Dr. Heyer on Thursday itself saying that " we have your pathological report and that you should see him. This caused a lot of anxiety as I was thinking the worst. Does Dr. Heyer know about the biopsy results that neither the my pulmonologist, who ordered the biopsy and who actually performed the procedure at Fairfax Hospital, or me know about it? The office assistance seemed to be… totally clueless about the stress and anxiety the office was putting me through. They simply seemed to care more about grabbing new patients than caring about the patients themselves. Extremely poor training and lack of patient care are responsible for this kind of behavior.

Dr Heyer and his staff are fantastic, Never dealt with crew like his, always willing to go one step further to make you feel at ease.

Having to visit an Oncologist is daunting at best. I have gotten to know Dr. Heyer and his staff through treatment for breast cancer for over 2 years. He and his staff are the best! Knowledgeable, accommodating and compassionate. Would and do recommend this practice to anyone who is looking for the best in care.l

One of the best doctors I have ever seen. Patient, kind, smart, listens and is truly concerned.

I visited Dr. Heyer for an evaluation of a blood clot and possible termination of Coumadin that a previous doctor recommended indefinitely. Dr. Heyer was very thorough in his consults and ordered numerous diagnostic tests. He also made numerous calls to the radiologists who were evaluating the ultrasound tests to be sure of the progress on and off Coumadin. He rendered his opinions but also listened carefully to every observation and issue I raised. Ultimately, I got off the Coumadin and feel much better than I have in 3 years. Excellent listener and practitioner who takes time to dsicuss all the variables and risks. Very good on follow-up calls to my home. Great bedside manner.

Doctor Heyer seems knowledgeable and thorough, albeit tired and overworked. But this review is all about his office staff. When I called the office to make an appointment I was told that first I had to contact an APPOINTMENT SCHEDULER by phone. It took 3 days to get a call back to schedule an appointment. The woman on the phone (Sandy) was cold bordering on rude. I specifically asked to make my appointment at the Reston office. I was told to fill out registration and medical questioner forms online, which I did that same day. Two days later i received a phone call from the office asking why i haven't filled out the online forms. Turns out they have misspelled my name and after correction those forms were found. I showed up for my appointment in Reston office on time when I was told that it was actually scheduled for the Fairfax office! The receptionist called the Fairfax office to see if I can still be seen there that same day but the answer was No. Two days later I received a call to… re-schedule for the Reston office. I finally arrive for my appointment in Reston and am told that my online forms are nowhere to be found(!) and that I'll have to fill the paper ones now. That takes me a half-an-hour past my appointment time. Then and only then I was finally able to see the doctor.In conclusion, if I could have foreseen all the unprofessionalism and ineptness of this office staff, I would run in the opposite direction.

Dr Heyer goes above and beyond the necessary. He visited me in the hospital when I was hospitalized for another condition. The other doctors were also very helpful during this time.

Dr. Heyer is a great doc! He was able to diagnose a blood disorder that no other doctor had been able to do. He is caring and provides answers to all questions you may have.
