Dr. David Charles Hood, MD

The appointment started out good. The women at the front desk were very kind. So was the nurse that took me back to one of the examination rooms. The nurse asked me a couple of questions and then left and said the doctor would be in soon. I may have waited two minutes. When Dr. Hood entered the examination room I was in, he didn't introduce himself. He asked me a lot of questions and then proceeded to stick two cotton balls up my nose soaked in something without telling me why. He also didn't tell me what they were soaked in. I had to ask. He said they were soaked in Afrin but didn't explain why he was doing it. He said it would take 10 to 15 minutes to take effect and left the examination room. When he came back, he took the two cotton balls out of my nose and proceeded to grab what looked like a spear fishing gun off the wall. He didn't tell me what he was going to do with it. Again, I had to ask him. He said he was going to use it to look at my vocal chords. I immediately said no… way. Not without some sort of anesthetic.  He became angry and annoyed with me, said he can't do a proper consult if he can't see my vocal chords and he would tell the doctor who referred me he was unable to do the consult. Some of this is my fault because I didn't prepare enough for the appointment. Normally I do my due diligence. I do my research on the doctor as well as what I should expect from the visit and I didn't do that this time. If I had done my research I would have known that he planned to use a Fiberoptic laryngoscopy to look at my nasal cavities and my vocal chords and that is why inserted a couple of Afrin soaked cotton balls up my nose. It's possible they were also soaked in lidocaine or novocaine but did not mention it. If he had, I would have told him I am allergic to both. I know that this test is sometimes done while the patient is awake and in the doctor's office but I also know that many times the patient is sedated or even under general anesthesia.  He should have explained EVERYTHING he planned on doing and WHY he was doing it. If he had, that appointment probably would have gone much differently. Instead, I paid $40 dollars to get treated like a piece of gum on the bottom of Dr. Hood's shoe. Oh yeah, my lips are still numb. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR!!!!

In a hurry, not pleasant, had to go elsewhere to get help.

4 repeated visits for a nose bleed without change in treatment. The silver nitrate treatment lead to sinus infection and that exacerbated into bronchitis. Needed 2 rounds of steroids and 3 rounds of antibios to recover. Still have nose bleeds. After the 2nd visit, the doctor should have recommended different treatment. Doctor seems uninterested and in a hurry to treat and leave.

Billing contractor made a huge mistake and lost my payment. Nurse is exceptionally nice; front office just OK. The doctor is straight forward, lacking warmth. No wait to get an appt.
