Dr. David Hanwuk Kim, MD

Dr. Kim performed a microdiscectomy and laminectomy on my spine several years ago. I recently reinjured my back and will be seeing him again. Regarding the patient with a prior surgery, very often physicians will not "touch" other physician's work, this is not unusual at all. Decent bedside manner for a surgeon as well!

It has been a year since my spinal surgery. I celebrated my birthday while in recovery and just recently celebrated it once again. Oh, what a difference! I can walk without numbness and pain, I can exercise with my aerobics class, I can keep up with my grandkids. Dr. Kim was an excellent surgeon. Because of his competence and capabilities, my recovery was excellent. When I looked up this surgery, it was said that muscle is cut and patients experience muscle spasms. I did not, and when my husband asked about that, he said he goes around muscles. That difference made a world of difference in my recovery.

Sometimes orthopedic surgeons give one the impression of regarding you as a collection of imperfect bones. Dr Kim is the exception. He operated on my back and has relieved me of literally years of pain. Additionally he actually listens to the patient.

I have seen about half the spine docs in town and finally told to see Dr. Kim by a few people including my barber of all people. Really glad I did. Kind and professional and provides very personal service instead of making me see a PA or nurse all the time. A little hard to make appointment though. Needed a complicated revision surgery which I knew I needed after seeing previous doctors but Dr. Kim was able to do the surgery in much less invasive fashion. Only two months out from surgery and feeling good now for the first time in a long while.

I am an orthopedists dream. I have had both knees replaced, four shoulder operations and a spinal fusion done by Doctor Kim. I am glad I waited over 25 years to meet the most thorough and professional Doctor, I have ever met. He makes you feel at ease answers all of my questions and your appt will be as long as you want it to be. He seems like a regular guy. He talks to you in terms you can understand. Simply, He's the best in my eyes and I would recommend him in a minute to anyone contemplating spinal surgery .

Don't understand the crazy comments of the woman below. Perhaps if her husband had gone to see Dr. Kim first, he would have been saved from having the useless surgery he ended up having by the other surgeon. My own experience was that Dr. Kim was extremely thorough and professional, much more so than the other two surgeons I consulted with (and both of whom quickly recommended surgery). He carefully presented the potential benefits versus risks in my particular case and ended up recommending that I not have surgery. He felt that I would eventually recover with additional nonsurgical treatment. And thank goodness I went with his advice. I avoided surgery and did recover completely and one hundred percent with additional time and therapy and avoided surgery altogether. Cannot recommend Dr. Kim more highly!

My husband had a spinal fusion of his L4-L5S1 when he was 24 years old. We went to Doctor Kim a few years after to get a second opinion because he was still in pain. We waited at least an hour to be seen. When we finally got in to review the MRI with Doctor Kim, he didn't even interact with us. Spoke into his recorder the whole time. The beginning half of his statement was that he couldn't find any reasonable sign of why my husband was still in pain. Half way through his statement he paused, and just left the room (my guess to actually look at the MRI) When he came back he revoked his previous statement and agreed that something was amiss. He concluded with telling us to go back to the original surgeon. We said we had a bad experience and that he refused to see us and Doctor Kim basically called us liars. That he knew the other surgeon personally and couldn't possibly imagine him acting like that. We had an extremely unpleasant experience with Doctor Kim and I am shocked to see so many… good reviews about him. Are the bad ones just not being posted?

I cannot say enough about Dr. Kim. He is on top of today's care, great bedside and office manner, Gives you a full description of what will be done, and even if a complication may arise, how he will handle it. Working in healthcare, I rely on what my peers and coworkers see with the pts they care for, and not a single one had one bad thing to ever say about Dr. Kim and all would have Dr. Kim take care of their family members, which really says a lot. From now on he will be the only physician that I will allow to take care of my needs!

Have seen a lot of spine specialists over the past several years, and have been most impressed by Dr. Kim's evaluation and care. Very thorough and professional. Ended up needing a microsurgery minimally invasive procedure and it worked out very well, actually much better than I had even hoped. Hopefully will not need any more spine surgery, but wouldn't hesitate to return to see Dr. Kim. Recommend him very highly.

Was recommended to me by several different people, including my own doctor and physical therapist as well as some random people. Went to see him with high expectations and he actually exceeded them. Very courteus and professional. A little rushed, but I could understand that because his waiting room was quite packed to see him. Still very pleasant and likeable, so decided to go with him for microsurgery after seeing other surgeons at other hospitals. Had a one hour surgery that went unbelievably smoothly and very little discomfort. So far have had fantastic results with less pain than have had in about 20 years. Recommend this guy very highly.
