Dr. David Ryan Massey, MD

I was in the hospital from Oct. 2nd to Oct. 18th. I'm not sure what the experiences the other raters had with Dr. Massey, but mine was not pleasant. He was deliberately vague with explaining where he was coming from as well as with explaining my condition that he thought I had (which I found out later he told my parents behind my back- but he doesn't know what causes that condition, just that I had it from what he observed of the two stays I had in the hospital). He was incredibly judgemental stating that I "used suicide and self-harm as ways to get my emotional needs met" when my outpatient therapist was the one convincing me that I had to go into the hospital because I didn't think things were serious enough. He also has a great lack of empathy when dealing with his patients, as he seems to like to put patients on psychotropic medication without fully understanding their condition, and if you express to the staff that you're not feeling okay, he quickly puts you on lockout and… would be done with you, rather than look into why you're feeling that way, and coaching/helping you to deal with it. Horrible doc, to be honest. As a pre-medicine student, I don't think I would want him as a professor let alone a doctor, because of these traits.

He might be tough sometimes but he knew what was best for me when I didnt. Helped me through a very difficult time.

He will not sugar coat anything, so the reviews against him are more than likely people in denial of the real issues. He deals very well with dual diagnosis, alcohol, drug and then mental issues as well. I went to him almost 3 years ago and am not sure if he is in private practice but I would drive to see him if he was. He was very knowledgeable and honest.

I am so thankful I was referred to see Dr Massey for my depression and anxiety. He was thorough in asking me questions, grasping a full understanding of my history and actually cared. It didn’t feel rushed at all. He was informative with explaining medications and compassionate about treating the root of my problem. I would recommend him to my closest friends/family!

Highly knowledgeable in field of study with varying conditions, disease process, and age groups. Genuine provider who wants to help those facing mental illness.

Belittling is his job, or so he thinks. Perhaps, that’s all he can do, since he doesn’t seem to have the ability to work with his patients.
