Dr. David Ryan Mayans, MD

Dr. Mayans is a wonderful doctor. Wicked sense of humor and really listens when many other doctors don't.

My mother was referred to Dr. Mayans after a severe fall. She was flown rom Medicine Lodge, Ks, my helicopter to Wesley Hospital. She sustained a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, several bruises and had no recollection of the fall. She spent a week at Wesley then almost 3 weeks at the rehab hospital. She literally had to relearn how to walk and talk. After her release and return home (Medicine Lodge) she continued to suffer from severe headaches. The PA in Medicine Lodge referred her to Dr. Mayans to find some kind of cause and relief for her headaches. My mother drove 1.5 hours to Wichita only for Dr.Mayans to question why she was in the rehab hospital for so long, who were her doctors and “what do you want from me?” My mother wanted to get up and leave. He even made a comment “Well I see your CAT scan. Looks like you still have a brain. I see you still have a crack on the skull. Maybe that’s why you still have headaches.” My mother returned home without any clarity… to the cause of her headaches let alone relief. With a tearful narrative about her experience was shared with her local PA, the PA decided to halt future referrals to Dr. Mayans. My mother is fragile due to this fall. Dr. Mayans could have at least shown some sympathy instead of treating her as if she was stupid and not worth his time!
