Dr. McCracken doesn’t seem to understand the importance of doing cerebellar tonsillar cauterization during chiari decompression, thus leading to very poor patient outcomes from numerous patients I’ve talked with. By not shrinking the tonsils, he is not allowing for adequate brainstem decompression, csf flow, or symptom resolution. I highly recommend he look at lectures from Dr. Heffez or Dr. Paolo Bolognese in order to truly comprehend how to thoroughly treat chiari patients. Furthermore, I’ve had several patients tell me that he does not provide adequate follow up on severe chiari decompression complications, including large csf leaks and meningitis, which are life threatening conditions. He also has implied these patients have fictitious psychiatric conditions, when in fact they are still suffering from the same neurological problems they saw this dr to begin with. I hope he is able to learn skills with empathy, although I truly don’t think this is something that can be taught.… As a fellow chiari patient and healthcare provider, I would recommend patients seek care elsewhere.

This doctor misdiagnosed my grandmother claiming that she has a brain tumor. Then he did not show up for three days to check up on her. Dr. David Maccracken did not give my grandma a report so she can take with her to another hospital. When my grandma went to an out of state hospital they told her she suffered a stroke and did not have a brain tumor. Dr. David McCracken wanted to do a biopsy and go into her head because he could not tell what kind of tumor my grandma had from the MRIs or CT scans. Thank God my grandma did not stay in his care!

I was not sure of Dr Mccracken when I first visited - maybe because I did not a craniotomy at all. He was straight with me always. He and his surgical team are so impressive. A surgery that might have taken 4 hours only took 1 1/2 hours. He was able to remove all of it and I did not require radiation. Would definitely recommend him. The ultimate professional with the ultimate team. Thank you!
