Dr. David Jay Nathan, MD

I initially felt really good about selecting Dr. Nathan to perform fusion, instrumentation, etc. on my trainwreck lumbar spine, from L2 to L5. He had three chances over 2.5 years. Each operation left me in serious pain, with a lot of nerve damage to my left leg. I finally wised up and found another surgeon. In the 4th procedure, a UofU orthopedic surgeon re-did everything, extended the remedy from L1 to S1 and bolted S1 to the pelvis. 3 months out, I feel great. Like many others, I found Dr. Nathan to be more interested in getting to Snowbird or Lake Mead than in caring for me. He stood me up, made me wait and rushed through every meeting during 2.5 years. And his staff seems distracted, superficial, and unfamiliar with the concept of customer service. In summary, my Dr. Nathan experience was horrible. I hope this info can save others from similar pain and disappointment.

"I'll call you with the results" equals "I'll call you sometime." Sent my elderly father to two different radiology labs and we've heard nothing from him. When we call the nurse says, "Oh the doctor has to tell you that. I'll have him call you." Crickets. very frustrating.

I have been in the medical field for 40 years (NP) and was very impressed with his thoroughness, respectful attitude, and knowledge-base. My adult daughter (MBA) and I both felt confident about him performing surgery on me, in 3 weeks.

My appointment was cancelled twice. I never saw him. I later learned that he cancelled his clinic to go snowboarding both times. That's not the dedication I want out of my surgeon. Now I'm back to square one looking for another surgeon, having gone through months of additional pain and suffering.

Dr. Nathan is the third surgeon to operate on my spine and neck and has operated four times. Most military fighter pilots have back problems from flying aggressively in a high "G" environment. Dr. Nathan has provided me with relief and has kept me walking. He takes time to thoroughly explain what procedures are necessary by using models and film. He lets me know what realistic expectations from surgery are. I highly recommend this most competent surgeon.

I was very impressed with Dr. Nathan. My surgery is scheduled in a couple of days and he has been very understanding and helpful. His staff has been great as well.

Great doctor

I saw Dr. Nathan today for lower right back pain. I truly appreciate that he took his time with me showing me my x-rays and MRI scan explaining on my level in detail and even writing on the films to educate me what is going on with my back. I felt so comfortable with him, he is very knowledgeable with great bedside manner. I felt he is more on the conservative side, wasn't pushy, didn't want to schedule surgery today, wanted it to be up to me when the pain gets worse to give him a call. No pressure here!!!! I choose him to do my surgery, he was actually my third opinion just because I had to wait quite a while to get in to see him but definitely WORTH THE WAIT!

Dr. Nathan performed emergency surgery on my son in the hospital on C2,C3. He did an amazing job and explained everything to us before the operation. The surgery was a success and he is recovering better than anyone could have hoped for with the extensive nerve damage from his accident. When he was released from the hospital Dr. Nathan talked to us and explained everything and sent us for x-rays and called me that same night to report the good news. He really cares about his patients and has been a godsend to our family. We can't thank him enough for his work.

I had the popular lower back pain with the siatic radiating down botj legs. MRI's showed a pinched nerve. I jad a real good surgeon in CA but no insurance there. IHC would not even look at me. So I had to go elsewhere. My internal medicine doctor recommended Dr Nathan. We liked him right off. He was very conservative. Right now I am 7 weeks out of surgery and doing great. I can finally walk again and thrilled. I may have had to grade him three stars on things like wait time or number of times I saw him but i am really thrilled with my results
