Dr. David S. Ruch, MD

Scheduled an apt to see Dr. Ruch after researching on my own a hand specialist. Dr. Ruch didn’t even have the professionalism to come in and see me. He sent a younger more inexperienced doctor in and never laid eyes on me. Unnecessary X-rays were taken as I was there for a TENDON issue not a bone issue. And they kept me in the room for 35 minutes while the younger doctor went to let Dr. Ruch “know what he was going to tell me.” Stay clear of here. The arrogance and unprofessionalism isn’t worth to the headache of anger you will experience while there.

Visited a month ago to assess treatment for arthritis. I seem to recall the doc said the only thing that would help would be surgery. I do not recall him offering me a cortisone shot prior to the surgery route. I felt he then described the problem with ligaments. But my issue was not that. He agreed and THEN began to describe my issue. I inquired about implant material. He did not seem to know. Well I DID go for a second opinion outside of Duke. The doc said 'let's try cortisone.' And he listened and gave me a whole new idea about my issue. Duke is letting me down with care like Dr Ruch's. Too bad. Also, his staff was a bit rough and inattentive. Unusual for Duke.

My experience with Dr. Ruch was wonderful. I did have to wait about 30 to 40 minutes to be seen by him but it was well worth it. The front desk staff and Dr. Ruch's clinical team were helpful and very compassionate. I wouldn't go to any other doctor. What is 30 or 40 minutes of a wait when you may spend a lifetime with a "botch" job elsewhere? I would highly recommend him and I would go back to him if I ever have any other hand issue.

Dr. Ruch seems very intelligent and I trust his medical expertise, but he doesn't seem to care about the patient at all. After previously seeing multiple doctors for hand pain, I went to him due to his experience in hand surgery. Unfortunately, after waiting a couple months for my appointment to arrive, I am met by his resident physician. It was only after stumping him that Dr. Ruch graced me with his presence. He proceeded to feel my hands for ~20 seconds, recommend me to two other doctors, then promptly exit the room. Each referred doctor has stated that they believe it is an orthopedic issue and I should go back to Dr. Ruch. The second referred doctor was purely surprised that I was referred to him. This makes me think that Dr. Ruch was just passing me off because he didn't want to take the time to figure out what is wrong with me.

Dr. Ruch saved my hand and my sanity. I had a badly botched surgery at Wake Forest University Hospital. When I finally wised up that the first guy wasn't even going to admit I had a problem, everyone I asked for a person to see suggested Dr. Ruch. He is smart, kind, and a brilliant surgeon. I have had a number of odd and difficult complications, and he is always truthful, which is the highest praise I can think of for a surgeon. Some of these reviews absolutely bewilder me. Each of u is different, and I don't suppose any surgeon needs a crystal ball to know sometimes things aren't as they seem once they get inside your hand. I feel truly blessed to be a patient of Dr. Ruch's. I'm sorry I need to be there, but that's hardly his fault. Top marks all around.

Dr. Rich operated on both hands to relieve carpel tunnel syndrome. The surgery went well with little complications or pain. The recovery was quick! Dr. Rich was attentive and answered all my questions. His administrative assistant was also very helpful.

DR. DO NOTHING/COVERUP REFUSED 2 CLEANUP HIS BUDDY'S, DR. SCREWUP'S MESSES OR HELP WITH SCREWED PATIENT'S SCREWEDUP HANDS AND LIFE, WHICH WAS HIS BUDDY'S FAULT ENIRELY WHO DIDNT USE ANY FLUROSCOPY XRAY TECH FOR EITHER HAND SURGERY! 4 HOUR WAIT CUZ HE WAS FIGHTING WITH DRUG CO REP! DON'T EVER GO C A DR WHO IS HIPPOCRITIC DPT HEAD.

We had our son in for sugery with Dr. Ruch. He was excellent. His staff and the staff at Duke Hospital were outstanding. My son's procedure and our 5 days in the hospital went very well.

Dr. Ruch is both a fabulous surgeon, smart and talented, and a great person. He truly restored me to near perfection after earlier surgeries didn't quite do the job. He and his staff were fun, nice and always compassionate. I would not go anywhere else if I needed any additional work.

He saved the use of my hand. My first Dr. messed up, and his diagnosis was me loosing use of my hand and wrist. Dr. Ruch fixed it! Less pain, and I can barely notice that my wrist was shatered.Thanks Dr. Ruch!
