Dr. Dawn Dickson Black, MD

I previously had a tuff Obgyn when I say tuff my previous Obgyn was not gentle I am not sure how after searching for a new Obgyn I came across this practice . I must tell you that if I can give Dr Black 5+ stars I would . I felt so comfortable she has so much patience and made me feel safe with my over all well women exam . I am recommending her to my female relatives and my daughter recently started seen her as well . I am thankful that God guided me to this Obgyn. Now the staff is friendly and welcoming . My experience today was 10 Stars .

Always quick and professional but still listens and answers any questions and concerns.

Dr. Black delivered by first baby, but I never want her to touch me ever again. I did not want an episiotomy. The nurses knew I didn't want one. They even put a copy of my birth plan, which clearly stated it, into my chart. I even told Dr. Black directly that I did not want an episiotomy. I told her I wanted clear communication through the process of labor and delivery. She gave me an episiotomy anyways, did not warn me or give me any chance to say no, and LIED to me after when I asked her if I tore. She said I tore to a second degree, but did NOT tell me she gave me an episiotomy. The nurse had to clarify to me what happened after Dr. Black left the room. And on a minor note, she initially lied saying that it was against hospital policy to video tape my delivery. I checked, no such policy exists, she simply did not want videos. I would have caught her lying to me on tape, but nope. Now I will NEVER have the sound of my first child's first cry. I felt so violated by her.

I had my first prenatal appointment and did not go well for a number of reasons. Overall, the appointment was confusing. The ultrasound didn't show what it was supposed to (too early) or it wasn't clear on the screen, so Dr. Black ordered additional bloodwork. I did the bloodwork and the results were  to my portal. Dr. Black did not provide commentary  interpreting the blood work. I called, left a voicemail, and messaged  the portal over the span of a few days asking for this interpretation, and importantly, next steps regarding this threatened miscarriage diagnosis. Aside from a blunt portal message response that did not answer many of my questions, I never got a formal interpretation from her and what I should do next. To top this bad experience, we waited over 40 minutes in the exam room for her to do the appointment. My husband went to find a staff member 20 minutes, the staff had no idea where the doctor was. There was no update from staff on the delay. When Dr. Black came in, she… asked if the insurance issue was straightened out. There was no insurance issue. Then she noted since we were late, and with the "insurance issue", we got bumped to the end of the queue. We were not late., she started to get defensive about how long we waited and started quoting times of when we showed up and went through check-in to blame the wait on . Her and her office took no responsibility and acknowledgement of anything. We had an awful appointment experience and terrible follow-up experience

She was the on call Dr when I delivered my daughter. She was not personable and was not prepared for my delivery. Nurse made me wait for more than 20 minutes when baby was ready to arrive because she was not there and they had no other stand in Dr. Once there, she yelled at me 3 times to keep my arm straight. I delivered at Memorial Herman for my son and would recommend delivering there any day over using this Dr or this hospital.

I have always felt she had a genuine concern for my well being. I started seeing her 15 years ago. I have seen many obgyn's, but I have never felt more comfortable with anyone else.

I was seeing Dr. Black for about two years and I tried to stick around, but I hate to say it. She really is not invested in her patients. I was so annoyed from our last appointment because I'm paying my money, but she wasn't even prepared for the appointment. She started offering a procedure that I already had and at that point I was completely done. I had a miscarriage in 2019 and the whole process seemed so impersonal. I should have left a long time ago. Take my advice, find a provider that invested in what you want to and listens.

I have been a long-time patient of OGA and recently switched to Dr. Black after my OBGYN retired. Dr. Black's questions about my medical history and intentional focus on my whole-well being floored me. She did not leave a stone unturned. I felt comfortable expressing questions or concerns about my health and she gave realistic and honest answers. I see why she was so highly recommended by a friend.

requesting to not to go to her , i went to her two times in 5 days before going to ER and she never did my pelvic examination nor did ordered any pelvic ultrasound or ant CT Scan. I was diagnosed with hematometra in the ER and the ER physician and OBGYN on duty were so surprised that Dr Black didnt even bother to examine me both times . She didnt even read her notes before seeing me and infact had no idea what was the reason I came to see her at both time and that too in a period of 5 days .

i went to this doctor two times before going to ER and she didnt do any pelvic examination for me , infact i had to request her for a pelvic ultrasound , I was diagnosed with hematometra and physician and OBGYN in ER were so surprised that my doctor didnt bother to examine me atleast . I request not to go to this doctor if your case is even a little bit complicated .I wasted my time ,energy and money in going to see her , and when your case is compliacted then every second counts
