Dr. Dawn Marie Schissel, MD

If I could give zero stars, I would. I saw Dr. Schissel to establish care. I was respectful and transparent about my health history and explained that I research prescriptions during visits due to past adverse reactions. Instead of collaborating, she used my medical record to vent, writing that I “insist on looking up medications” when she suggests something “better.” That line served no medical purpose and was unprofessional. I had to submit a formal patient statement just to correct the record and ensure my concerns were represented accurately. Even more disturbing: this visit happened on Juneteenth—a day that represents visibility, dignity, and the right to be heard. The irony of being misrepresented in my own medical record on that day speaks volumes. I’ve since filed a formal complaint with the Iowa Board of Medicine. I do not recommend Dr. Schissel to anyone who values ethics, respect, or collaborative care.

I have worked, full time, for over 30 years directly with Doctors and nurses in the Des Moines area. I have a very short list of Doctors I would go to or recommend for friends and family. Dr Schissel is the top of that list. I have been a patient since she was a first year resident to now. I worked professionally with her for many years. She simply is someone who takes pride in her work, constantly strives to be current on medical knowledge, and has a deep drive to know each and every one of her patients.

Rude. Terrible bedside manner with patients she disagrees with. She said something innapropriate and belittling about me in the exam room to my four year old daughter.

I've never waited more than 5 minutes past my appt time and typically I am in prior to my appt time. Dr. Schissel and her staff are top-notch!

Dr. Dawn is the best dr in the busness. I would refur any one to her. I have been going to her for 22 years.

Always takes her time and answers all my questions.
