Dr. Dean Peng, MD

I have the pleasure to meet Dr. Peng, after have been seen by different PCP Doctors. I finally called the ambulance and ended at Kaiser Zion, my medical condition was not getting any better, I did not think than was that serious but been in a lot of pain is not normal, I was in the hospital for seven days Dr. Peng and a whole medical team specialties spend a lot of time with me, and after a lot a tests and days of research I was diagnose with a rare blood disorder in 2013, I m a survivor since then, Dr. Dean Peng spend all his life studying I'm very fortunate to met him. Thank you for saving my life

I've been recently diagnosed with a significant and life threatening blood disorder. I was referred to Dr. Peng and I'm so glad to have him as my doctor. I found him to be patient and open to all my questions. Most of all I found him to not only be highly analytical but extremely responsive. Every time I've tried to reach him, Dr. Peng has come right back to me with a phone call same day. I couldn't ask for more. Thank you Dr. Peng

After an initial consult, I immediately changed providers. Dr. Peng reported a diagnosis of cancer, handed me some papers telling me to read more about it, brushed aside my questions, and abruptly left. According to other patients and even his medical colleagues, this negative experience was not unique. It is disappointing and outrageous that he continues to hold a staff position at Kaiser Permanente. He did phone to apologise and promised to do better. I foolishly gave him another chance. During that appointment he took a call from his wife while examining me, then disappeared for 25 minutes without explanation. I later learned that he had to attend to personal details of an upcoming family trip. If you enjoy arrogant and uncaring physicians who show no compassion for their patients, then Dr. Peng is exactly right for you. That approach to medicine may be acceptable in his native China, but is not the way medicine is taught or practised in the U.S., where the doctor/patient… relationship is a partnership of communication, trust and respect. There are many excellent oncologists. Sadly, Dr. Peng is not one of them.

Dr. Peng has a poor bedside manner and is condescending when questions are asked. If there are complications/reactions to the prescribed chemo, he is very unsympathetic and it is difficult to get additional prescriptions. He's more than happy to talk to you about his recent family vacation, but don't dare ask a question about the diagnosis or course of action, or his ego will be bruised and he'll feel threatened and will make subtle insults at your intelligence. If you search your diagnosis online and bring it up in the office visit, watch out! He'll get offended and find a way to cut your office visit short. If you wind up in the hospital during your chemo treatment, be prepared to be virtually abandoned by Dr. Peng. He won't make rounds to visit, won't return calls, and will rarely consult with the attending doctor.
