Dr. Dean Nelson Pollack, MD

At my very first prenatal appointment with Dr. Pollack for my second pregnancy, I specifically declined the “standard” pap smear, since I just had my annual exam with him a few months prior and the results were normal. I made sure to inform the nurses, assistants and Dr Pollack that I did not want another pap smear at this appointment. I did however consent to a wet mount which is a less invasive swab used to test for vaginitis and vulvitis. During the procedure I felt a pinch and my husband and I saw blood on the tool that he used and to my surprise, after he completed said swab, he stated “I did the pap smear” with a smug look on his face fully knowing I didn’t consent to it, and billed my insurance for it too. My husband and I were in so much shock but I (regrettably) continued to see him throughout my pregnancy. Halfway through my pregnancy I informed Dr. Pollack that I wanted to try and forgo the epidural this time around since… the epidural kept wearing off the last time I was in labor. His response to that was “Why would you go through all that pain?”. I also inquired about a doula to which he replied condescendingly: “If the doula is going to rub your feet and give you a massage that’s fine but make sure you tell her to let me do my job.” At the next appointment his nurse Danielle gave me a “Consent Form for Obstetrical Care”. She told me that the hospitals “require it to be submitted at no later than 32 weeks” and that I had to make a definitive decision about whether I wanted an epidural or not at 32 weeks as well. She also stated that I signed the same form last pregnancy even though she couldn’t find it in my records. So I called the hospitals regarding this form before I signed it since he was on vacation, and they stated that 1) They do not require any form to be submitted by 32 weeks and 2) There is no form that would prevent me from being able to change my mind about an epidural during labor as it is my right as a patient to decide that at any time. At my next visit when I asked Dr. Pollack about this form he was very aggressive, defensive and dismissive. He told me that I didn’t have to sign the form if I didn’t wish to, and he also didn’t provide an answer as to why his nurse Danielle lied to me about the form, and kept saying aggressively “so where are you going with this?” after almost every concern/question I asked. At that point, I could no longer trust him or his nurses, so I left his practice at 32 weeks pregnant and requested my records. Upon picking up my records the following Monday, I noticed that certain notes/records were omitted. Specially the note where stated I did not wish for a pap smear at my first prenatal appointment, which my husband and I saw his nurse write down. After calling his office and dealing with his not so friendly receptionist, I was extremely frustrated so they put me on the phone with Dr Pollack. After asking him about the omitted records, he strangely asked me “Is your husband with you?” and asked me to put my husband on phone. When I declined he said that I changed and that I wasn’t the person he thought I was. He then said he doesn’t add or change records for “good OR bad”. He then stated “What’s the problem in me doing a Pap smear against your wishes?” and that “none of my staff will remember that you said you didn’t want a pap smear”. He told me I wasn’t “nice” for accusing him of lying, that only a few people in his life ever called him a liar and then abruptly ended the convo with “I wish you well”. Thanks be to God, I found a new doctor at 38 1/2 weeks pregnant and had the birth that I desired. All of this to say beware of this doctor and that there are much better doctors in Pittsburgh who are professional, non judgmental, honest, sincerely kind, respectful and most importantly will respect your wishes.

“Do you take good care of your husband and your home?” I never expected a gynecologist to ask me this question. Upon being asked by my doctor to visit a gynecologist one more time to firmly rule out disease of the reproductive system (before continuing care in the gasterointestinal area) I went to see Dr. Pollack. It ended with me being told all of my issues are mental (despite telling him that I was just diagnosed with a C. difficile infection two weeks earlier and am pending scopes to determine intestinal damage) My gasterointestinal issues all started with a gynecological procedure, which is why I was told by my doctor to see Gyno once more to totally rule out damage to the reproductive tract that could possibly cause ongoing pelvic issues. I didn’t go here to insist there was something wrong with me. I went here at the recommendation of my doctor to make sure my problems did not include my reproductive system. What I left with was boiling blood from a lecture about… mental health after this gynecologist stated that because I am functional enough to take care of my home, I can’t possibly be that unwell. I don’t believe a gynecologist who has known me for all of five minutes is 1) entitled to an opinion about my emotional health. 2) equipt with the education to tell me to forego my GI specialist’s order to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy because he believes I’m distraught. Depression does not cause bloody stool, bleeding between periods and after sex, severe pelvic pain, nausea and vomiting for months on end, bouts of dangerously low blood pressure and dizziness, and the various other ailments I’ve been enduring for six months now, after having a complicated D&C. This doctor is the kind of doctor to avoid at all costs if you’re a “tough case.”

Depression is often a debilitating condition for those who have it, but depression does not cause bleeding & pelvic pain. Depression does not cause vomiting for months on end (particularly on and right after menstruation) and depression certainly does not cause intestinal infection after a gynecological procedure (D&C). But suffering from these issues with no resolve certainly can and will cause depression. I don’t want to believe that this doctor meant any harm. But, the visit with him was absolutely absurd, think HandMaids Tale kind of absurd! I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Doctor Pollack caring, considerate, kind . Excellent gynecologist I wouldn’t trade him for anyone. So happy and pleased with him all ?? ?? ?? ?? ??

AMAZING DOCTOR!!!!!!!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Pollack's for 25 years. I started as a young patient expecting my first child. He has since delivered all three of my children, cared for me after a miscarriage and will soon be doing my hysterectomy. He is a compassionate and patient physician. He will listen and he will encourage you to participate in your treatment plan. He has office staff that have worked for him during my entirety with him; which to me says a lot about his character.

Dr Pollack always has time for his patients. He is thorough and meticulous.

I love Dr. Pollack so much that I have my daughters and various friends of them seeing him. I have been his patient for 29 years and he delivered 6 of my 7 children. He is very caring, smart, competent at what he does. He knows what the patient need. He is confidential with issues and a great listener too.

The best doctor you can find . Very personable and knowledgeable . Staff is exeptional and professional .
