Dr. Deepika N. Shah, M.D., M.P.H.

When I went to see an award winning foreign language movie but couldn’t read the sub-titles, I asked my colleagues at work if they could recommend a good ophthalmologist. They were all unanimous in their extremely positive experience with Dr.Deepika Shah. When I called Dr.Shah’s office at Eye Doctors of Washington, I was able to get an appointment the following week. I cannot say enough good things about EDOW’s staff who were very competent and amiable. Dr.Shah was thorough, deliberate, and very patiently listened to my concerns and questions. She explained my condition in a manner that I could understand. Dr.Shah explained to me that I was ready for cataract surgery and intra-ocular lenses and that I will not need glasses after my surgery. I felt assured that I will be in good hands with Dr.Shah taking care of my eyes. The surgery was quick and painless, and I am delighted to report that I am now enjoying 20/20 vision without the burden of wearing spectacles. Just goes to… show that there is one more thing that I can whole-heartedly agree on with my friends – Dr.Deepika Shah’s expertise and warm and caring persona.

Very bad experience. I had to have emergency surgery to save my eyesight after Dr. Shah unsuccessfully attempted to perform cataract surgery on right eye. She stated that the elongate shape of my eye was likely the cause of her failure. Interestingly, I underwent a thorough eye examination by her office prior to the surgery and she was aware of the shape of my eye before she attempted the surgery. My sister who had successful cataract surgery around the same time discussed my situation with her doctor. My sister's eyes are similar in shape. Her doctor told her that Dr. Shah had just made a mistake. Worse still, Dr. Shah seemed oblivious to the harm that she had caused and seemed arrogant and aloof. Her apparent efforts to cover up what happened bordered on harassment. Luckily another doctor successfully performed cataract surgery on my left eye, and I am seeing well in both eyes.

Felt very comfortable with her care, great bedside manner.

Dr Shah saw me as an emergency on short notice which I appreciated, diagnosed and treated my issue with terrific care and compassion. I would highly recommend her!

The most incompetent doctor I have ever visited. Not only did she do nothing to ameliorate my conjunctivochalasis, she also prescribed ointment that exacerbated it and upsold me on some $150 omega supplements. Her entire demeanor was dismissive.

Dr Shah is amazing! She was patient, compassionate and correctly diagnosed my condition after carefully listening and examining me. I have been to many doctors previously who had failed to identify my problem. She was very efficient and caring and got me on the correct course of treatment. She also ordered some blood work and imaging and then called me to update me on the results outside of office hours. She truly cares! Her office and staff are also excellent.
