Dr. Deepthi Karanam, MD

Dr Karanam is the best physician. She has great bed side manners and takes time to listen and answers questions

I've only seen her a few times, but on each occasion she met my expectations. Unlike other Dr's, she doesn't give me the feeling of trying to rush me out of the office. She always asks if there is anything else she can help me with before we end the session, which I appreciate.

On dec 29,2017 I saw dr. Karanam for a pre op physical. She was thorough, and answered all my questions. First visit with her ,very impressed.

Does not care about helping -too difficult to get referrals

I had a routine physical about a month and a half ago with Dr. Karanam. I did all the normal blood and urine tests associated with it. 2 days after my labs, I received a call saying that one of my tests was abnormal. The gal on the phone said I was "too young for this," and that I "need to come back in and test again. I asked if I needed to be concerned. I was told, "Just come in and test again." Let's freak a girl out huh? So I did, and I went in for my physical meet up same-day. I was told I had proteineuria (*sp). I said I had been stressed a lot that month, so that was probably the reason I had extra protein levels that high. I was told "not like this." (As in stress wouldn't cause it like this. Again with the ominous?) So again I asked if I needed to be concerned. What do they think it is. Dr. Karanam said we needed to wait for the second labs, but if necessary, she specializes in kidneys. Then I was sent home. Again with no additional information. So I did as much research as I… could on my own and called my aunt who has kidney issues for her expertise. My second test came back with lower protein levels, however my albumin/creatinine ratio was SKY HIGH. They scheduled an ultrasound which was normal and then told me I didn't need to come back in at all. No followup. Even with sky high numbers. I said, "What's the next step?" They told me there isn't one. So I went in for a third protein test (only because it had been previously scheduled before the ultrasound results). THEY LOST IT. IT DISAPPEARED. And tonight, they tried to beat around the bush and say maybe the specimen wasn't enough or that the sticker on the lab specimen wasn't secure (which I can attest neither are the case). They literally just lost it and tried to make excuses. This frustrated me because I travel for work A LOT. I have dual state residency in SCV, but I spend a lot of time out of state. I mentioned that I wasn't in CA and was frustrated. So the assistant on the phone brought Dr. Karanam to her (who NEVER spoke to me on the phone, only conversed with the assistant). They told me that my ultrasound and creatinine in the blood came back normal and that my second protein test came back normal (uh no it came back 2+), so I'm fine. I said I was NOT fine because my albumin creatinine ratio in that same 2+ test was at a level that denotes Chronic Kidney Disease and their office refuses to tell me anything or be clear about anything. I know my numbers. and I know what the numbers are supposed to be. (Hint: Normal is below 30 and I'm at 425). They suggested I find a new doctor and follow up there. Again, Dr. Karanam specializes in kidneys. The KIDNEY DOCTOR turned me away when I have numbers that can denote kidney disease after her facility called me panicked with the first test, and LOST the third test while making excuses.

Took her time and was a wonderful communicator.

When I chose her to be my PMD, I didn't have to explain my history, she addressed my immediate concerns, referrals and follow ups without delay. She is very professional and very caring.
