Dr. Denise Hays Devine, MD

My name is Brittany Lawrimore. Since my last review was deleted , I’ll write another one. I had my son in 2017 and Dr. Devine was my doctor for him. Well after having him I most certainly had post partum depression, bad. I came to her crying cause I was honestly just a mess and not really myself or knowing what to do thinking the obgyn whose suppose to be a professional in delivering babies and women’s bodies and what comes along with that could help direct me in the right way or atleast be supportive. Nope, basically gave me a little side smirk and chuckle and said “ what do you want me to do call the ward?” Not to mention she didn’t even deliver my baby, Dr Baird did who is also someone everyone praises meanwhile this lady looks me dead in the eyes while I’m freaking out because I’m having another emergency c section , in the middle of my c section and says “ you really shouldn’t have any more kids” Dr Baird nor Devine didn’t even bother to check in after having my son or… anything , didn’t even ask about him or anything afterwards, just that. Heck the whole department didn’t do anything for me. There lucky I spent the next 3 years suffering with my depression and didn’t write this everywhere sooner because of it and because after her encounter I was to scared to go to anyone for help. SICK, just sick. And no this isn’t just some crazy person writing a review just because, this is the truth. They won’t lose any sleep over it tho I’m sure. Thank you for ruining the first moments with my child , giving me ptsd when it comes to doctors and making me absolutely terrified when it came to having another. Which I did btw not through yall , THANK GOD. Hopefully they retire soon so nobody else has to suffer from them. But my story will be told until they do.

If she is the attending physician the night you go into labor, leave. Go to another hospital, even if it means delivering in a parking lot. I say this without exaggeration: my experience under her care was deeply traumatic, and it left emotional scars I’m still dealing with months later. Just seeing her photo makes me nauseous and filled with dread — that’s how profound the impact of her treatment was. Dr. Devine lacked even a shred of compassion, empathy, or basic human decency. From the moment she entered the room, her presence was cold, dismissive, and domineering. Her team mirrored her complete disregard for patient well-being, making the entire experience feel more like a hostile procedure than the birth of my child. I genuinely believe I would have been safer and more supported giving birth completely alone at home than under her “care.” No woman deserves to be treated the way I was during what should be one of the most sacred and vulnerable moments of her life. If you value… dignity, safety, and any semblance of compassion — avoid Dr. Devine at all costs.

Dr. Devine is awesome. The wait time at the office is not. During my pregnancy I never had an appointment where I was seen within 30 minutes of the appointment time. During one was I was actually seen 1 hour and 45 minutes AFTER my scheduled time. It's really unfortunate, because she's such a wonderful physician. That being said, if you schedule an appointment at their satellite office on Folly Road the wait time is much better. Stay away from the main office in West Ashley unless you take an entire day off to sit and wait...

Dr. Devine is a wonderful doctor. She is very compassionate and cares about her patients. You won't find a better doctor!

Dr. Devine is militant and controlling. She is not open to patient preferences and uses scare tactics and hostility to attempt to coerce patients into submitting to procedures and her "standard of care." If you are an individual who likes to be involved in decision making about your healthcare, do NOT go to Dr. Devine. Interview OBs to find one who is patient centered and supportive of individual choices.

She misdiagnosed me then didn't even care to call when the results came back.

I am a very squeamish person when it comes to pap smears, and cold, metallic and/or pointy instruments near my parts. She has been great! She is always willing to answer my questions, spends time with me, explains what is happening next, and never expresses impatience. She successfully treated me for severe dysplasia, and just performed and Essure procedure for me. She calmed my fears about an in-office Essure, that I changed my mind about tubal ligation and went with Essure. Remember, I am super squeamish! The procedure went great and I was up and running the next day! Minimal pain, even warmed the speculum! :-) I recommend her and will continue to go to her. Lisa is her nurse and she is fabulous too!

I've been going to Dr. Devine for at least 10 years now. She is VERY caring, understanding, and knowledgable. I highly recommend Dr. Devine.
