Dr. Derek Sanders was born and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan as the youngest of five children.  He attended college at Michigan State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude.  Dr. Sanders then received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in the top of his class.  While in dental school, Dr. Sanders enrolled in a dual degree program and also earned a Master of Business Administration with a focus in health care management.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sanders has been the recipient of many distinctive awards and was one of a few select students inducted into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.  Following his dental training, Dr. Sanders practiced as a restorative dentist in Philadelphia, PA.  His passion for continuing learning and interest in orthodontics led him to the University of Connecticut, where he was the chief resident and earned a postdoctoral Certificate in Orthodontics and …a Master of Dental Science.
Dr. Sanders is a Board Certified Orthodontist.  He is among a very small group of orthodontists in the world to earn this additional degree of recognized excellence and is the youngest orthodontist in Miami to successfully pass the clinical orthodontic board exam.  Dr. Sanders is active in the dental community and is a member of:
American Association of Orthodontics
Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics

Florida Dental Association and Miami Dade Dental Society
Florida and Southern Association of Orthodontics
Roth/Williams International Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. Sanders is a highly skilled clinician who is loved for his warm personality and kind heart.  He has lectured nationally and internationally on various topics in orthodontics and has several original articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.  Dr. Sanders spends countless hours in continuing education and is dedicated to providing the best orthodontic care for his patients.  He completed a two-year advanced course in functional occlusion from the Roth-Williams Center for Advanced Orthodontic Education and is an Alumnus of the prestigious Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida.
Dr. Sanders lives with his wife in Miami and thoroughly enjoys being a contributing member of the community.  He enjoys golf, tennis, skiing, traveling and spending time with his family.  For years, Dr. Sanders has been a die-hard UM Hurricane and Miami Heat fan.
