Dr. Desmar Walkes, MD

I went to Dr. Walks for several years. The first time I met her we had a nice visit; she was very friendly and cheerful. But for a doctor, I never really got the help I needed. Her main focus is on the sleep labs and Botox treatments and things like that. She would forget what my main medical issues were and send me for tests check up some things that weren’t my main problem or do a lot of well woman check ups when I had health issues that needed priority. Most of your time is spent in the waiting room and then waiting in the examining room. The last several times our family went to her, we didn’t even see her, but another Doctor who works there that she had turned us over to without consulting us. She was still seeing her other patients. After we quit going to her, I paid for my medical records, and they weren’t even accurate. At all. I have a number of conditions that have been diagnosed by specialists, and causing me a lot of pain and suffering. All those… years worth of medical records don’t mention any of those conditions and have several other false statements in them. In fact I feel that those medical records make it look like I am a fairly healthy person, just a complainer. Since I am a very quiet patient person, this especially saddens me.

Dr, Walkes asks questions and listens to patient concerns, all of which are a priority to her. She is on top of preventative medicine and motivates her patients by discussing with them new ideas which might help improve their health.

I always found it outrageous at her old office that she had a sign in the waiting room that stated that if you were 15 minutes late, you forfeited your appointment. Meanwhile, while I had to take off work to take a family member, we were normally there 3-4 hours even if we had the earliest appointment time of the day. There was no empathy for an elderly patient sitting in a wheelchair all that time. No empathy forcing someone who could barely stand to be forced to be pulled up on the examination table for routine vitals that could easily have been performed from the chair. Might be a very knowledgeable and intelligent doctor but terrible showing concern for her patients. Business is very poorly run. Knowing people who still go there, nothing has really changed. I’m very thankful for having the physician I have.

Dr.Walkes is a credit to her profession, She is kind ,compassionate ,and intelligent .. She got to the root of the problem and helped me obtain a great quality of life after being so sick for so long and for that I will forever be grateful...

All about the money no matter how sick or how much pain you’re in if you don’t go in to get her office visit money you won’t get it out. Worst experience I’ve ever had ended up in the hospital for 15 days with gout . Worst medical experience I have ever head terrible ..

She's all about the money. Only Dr. I've ever had that required you come in for an appointment monthly to get a thyroid medication refill. Very moody, angry.

very poor service, dr keep you waiting every visit, you can't get thru on the phone and they never reply to the prescription refills from the pharmacy. they set appointments that you don;t know about and then if you miss they charge you $50. Bad practice!

The one star rating by most reviews is certainly well deserved. I disliked having to put the word Doctor in front of her name. Doctor to Patient skills rates a 1star. You can wait for 45 minutes and then feel fortunate if she spends 5 minutes with you. Want your prescriptions refilled/renewed that she prescribed in the first place, how about 100% ignore, try and call her office and they are always having "phone" problems. Go by the office and you are told you have to make an appointment to before the scrips can be renewed. Her staff turn over is so fast you never get to know them. Oh, and if you get their answering service, hang up because your message is not going anywhere. It's time for a change.

The first visit she seemed genuinely concerned but every visit after that was very hurried and quite a few important details were ignored about my condition. She had given me exams and did not have a good bedside manner at all, I felt violated when she was done. She was very disconnected.

Ive been to Dr. Walkes a few times because of the initial convenience of location and ease of getting an appointment. Upon arriving, however, Ive repeatedly waited over an hour past my appointment time. The very first time, the office staff had scheduled me for my yearly physical but when I met Dr. Walkes she told me she wouldnt do the physical until the next visitthe first one was just to meet me and get my medical backgroundso I had to make another appointment, take more time off from work, and pay another co-pay. In the exam room, her demeanor iswell, cold sounds too harshbut definitely cool (and not in the good way). Im not kidding when I say Ive seen her smile once. Every time Ive walked out with a list of expensive lab tests; last time I went to another doctor for a second opinion before spending $700 for a breathing test when Dr. Walkes suspected allergies, and the second doctor recommended a much, much, MUCH cheaper blood draw to check for those allergies.Getting lab… results back has also been a nightmare. Dr. Walkes wants to see patients for the follow-up rather than give results over the phone, and the last time I had labs done I had to repeatedly call to see if the results were in. Thankfully I took that initiative because I called three times, three different weeks, and the office had no idea why the results werent coming in. They werent willing to call the lab and find out what was taking so long; they gave ME the number to do it. At least I was able to cancel/reschedule my follow-up appointments each time I found out the results werent in. Ugh. The convenience of location and scheduling appointments is NOT worth it. I now drive an hour to get to another doctor, but the payback is ten-fold.
