Dr. Devin J Platt

I had a root canal performed by Dr. Platt a few years back. During the procedure a piece of the file broke off and remained in my gum. At the end of the procedure, he did not clearly explain to me what had happened and when I continued to suffer pain in the gum, I had to return to him to see what was going on. At this point he explained about the file and that when this happens sometimes the gum may "accept" the file and not get infected. Well, the gum NEVER accepts a foreign body (as I was told by my oral surgeon) and it almost always ends up bad. Basically it became so infected that I had to have the tooth removed and an implant put in at my own cost of roughly $4000. He offered to perform the removal, but he must be out of his mind if he thought i would ever let him touch my teeth again. Now, I have been explained by a few oral surgeons that sometimes this happens (the oral surgeon would not give me the # of times it has happened for Dr. Platt though, I imagine more than once).… However, he should have copped up to it right away and sent me to an endodontist to try and remove the file immediately before the infection and loss of the tooth. I blame myself. The warning signs were there. From the hideous cleaning by the hygenist (came out with my shirt soaked and teeth barely cleaned) to the hysterical,screaming 15 minute personal phone call Dr. Platt was having for all patients to hear. Moral of the story: do yourself a favor and find a new dentist.
