Dr. Devon Alan Hoover, MD

Dr. Hoover did a spinal fusion on me several years ago and I was scheduled for another one tomorrow. Until I received the devastating news. He was definitely an amazing human being. Kind, compassionate, sympathetic, understanding, just an overall good person. He will be missed tremendously by his family, patients, staff and colleagues. So sad,I am still so shocked there are no words.

Dr. Hoover did a spinal surgery on me a few years ago that turned out well. I have been back to see him for another issue. He has always been so kind and informative at my office visits that I have recommended him to several other people. Tonight we heard the horrible news of his death. I’m so, so sad

Dr. Hoover is a excellent doctor he very informative and he has great bedside manners and the staff is very friendly in his office.

Had a procedure done by Dr.Hoover a few years back and this guy is the best. I fully recovered with no complications. He takes the time to explain exactly what he has to do. He listens to your concerns. Excellent doctor. If I ever need another surgery that he specializes in - it will be him.

Dr. Hoover is the best. Although I have only seen him twice, his staff is helpful & professional.

I was referred to Dr. Hoover after developing severe sacral pain and pressure, sciatica in my left leg, along with some other symptoms. Meeting Dr. Hoover was fine, he seems like a nice person. However he pulled up my MRI, said it he doesn't see why I feel the symptoms I do and recommended I get steroid injections again (even though none of the steroid injections I got before helped at all). On my MRI there was something that looked like a rather large cyst and the radiologist recommended I get a dedicated sacral MRI. Dr. Hoover said "I don't want you to think I am blowing you off and sweeping this under the rug so I will order this MRI just to get a better idea of whats in there". This was good because I knew I needed it. However, I was not going to get another round of useless steroids. The nice girl at the front desk stated "he wants you to come back to discuss your MRI." My thought was, why are you wasting my time, why cant he call me with the results especially when his next… available appointment was a month and a half later. Meanwhile I am suppose to sit here dying of pain just to come into his office to DISCUSS my new MRI a month and a half after my MRI. I told them I will not wait that long and they offered me an appointment with his NP a week later. So I took it. Luckily I am a nurse and had my report emailed to me anyway. It gave a clear description of a tumor in my sacrum. When I had the appointment with the NP they couldn't find my report, and it took over an hr to find my CD with my images that I delivered myself a week prior right after my imaging was completed. Then she had the nerve to tell me after I said I read the report and that there is a Schwannoma (peripheral nerve sheath tumor) at S2 S3, she said, "well we really don't care what the radiologist says on the report, we don't really go by the report, they are pretty useless". Are you kidding me? You are telling me you know more then a trained radiologist that can read these things in his sleep??? OUt of the many reports I have read in my nursing career, this report was so detailed and wonderful. Do not brush me off like that and tell me the radiology report is not pertinent. Then after Dr. Hoover looked at my images that day he didn't even poke his head in my room to tell me, "ya there is something on your MRI but I am not able to operate on things outside of the central nervous system so I will send you to a great surgeon." He never came in to let me know he was wrong. Before I had this MRI he looked me in my eyes and said "you will be fine, this pain will not be forever, it will go away on its own. THEN his NP was like, ya we are all set with you, make an appointment with this lady, there is nothing wrong with you but just go there to rule this nerve tumor out. LONG story short I had a rather large tumor that I had surgically removed 2 weeks later because the surgeon I found myself fast tracked me to the O.R because of its urgency. I am so glad I advocated for myself and didn't wait a month and a half to hear Dr. Hoover tell me he can't help me and then wait another month for an appointment with the surgeon who could help. I felt blown off about something serious in this office. Dr. Hoover's NP is not all that bright. This office was going to make me wait to have a freaking office visit with Hoover one and half month later to review my new MRI just to find out he cant help me! I can't stand how this office is ran. If you order an image you should call the patient with the results and not make them wait almost two months to find out they have a GROWING TUMOR in their sacrum but he can't do nothing about it!!!!! I can't speak if he is actually a good surgeon or not but his office sucks and the way they do things sucks. Thank God I have a medical background and can advocate for myself and REFUSE to wait while dying in pain and be blown off. I can't imagine how many people have fallen through the cracks and have been told there is no explanation as to why they are in pain. Go to Michigan Head and Spine Institute. Thats where the good ones are at.

I was blacking out, falling. Degenerative disc disease/spinal stenosis. Dr. Hoover did a great job on my neck, left with some nerve damage but that is minor compared to the possibilities of death or paralysis. This was in 2002. In 2007 Dr. Hoover did my sciatica spacers. Best doctor I have had. He listens and hears what you are saying. Options are explained very well. I would refer all of my friend and family to Dr. Hoover.

Excellent surgeon. He is competent and has a great bedside manner. He treats patients with respect & never rushes you. His office staff is also outstanding and supportive

Dr. Hoover is not only a great surgeon, but a first-class man. He takes prides in providing great care to each one of his patients, and also has great bedside manners to top if off. He truly cares! He performed a TLIF procedure on me and the results were great. I highly recommend Dr. Hoover to anyone needing any Neurosurgical procedure.

I highly recommend Dr. Hoover. He has done anterior cervical discectomy and fusion surgery on me and has also removed a nerve sheath tumor in my leg. He takes surgical decisions slow with his patients and exhausts all other options before proceeding to surgery. He takes plenty of time with his patients to ensure all questions have been answered. A true Profesional with an outstanding bedside manner.
