Dr. Diana Fernandez-Schmidt, MD

Dr. Fernandez is a Godsend for me. I went for a second opinion . She is very knowledgeable and took the time to explain to me what the previous neurologist didn’t even care to discuss . She was about 10 minutes late , but didn’t rush through my consult . Very kind and mild mannered .

Dr. Fernandez really needs to work on her communication skills. First of all, Lack of acknowledging as a doctor. On my visit, She talks a lot and very fast. However, she did not give any useful information. Most of her talks are "Yesh, I have seen worse, you are not alone" blah blah blah. In the end, she finally gave a couple of pills with very unprofessional "hand-written" instructions (Made me had a hard time to read) and I was being told to leave. I was here for diagnosing and treatment, not for Sunday morning church talk. Please be professional. Second, she is very very very argumentative, she wouldn't take any question or comments regarding her judgment. It made me feels like I was challenging her authority. She played defensive at every moment. Third, I did not feel any kind of manner from her perspective, I am always trying to respect every doctor and nurse I have seen. However, the way of her talking to me made me feels stereotype from her. Dr. Fernandez is the first… doctor to even told me "I can judge your history based on paperwork, so don't try to lie". As a patient, I need treatment to hail my symptom, what's the benefit for me to lie to a doctor? This is ridiculous! In conclusion, Dr. Fernandez is the first one and the only one I felt a waste of time and money for me. If you have to see her: 1. Never argue with her, remember: Dr. Fernandez is always right. 2. If she starts talking, be a good listener, smile and nod. 3. Compliment her, never a complaint. Have a nice day and feel better :)

I had high expectations about this Dr.

I feel that a doctor should be able to listen to the patient. I understand they are on tight schedules but you don't get sent to a neurologist to be interrogated.

My husband saw Dr. Fernandez after experiencing severe and unexplained pain in his legs and feet. His PCP wanted to rule out neurological conditions. I accompanied him since he speaks English as a 2nd language. I was shocked by our interaction with this doctor. I still can't believe it. She was the most rude and incompetent doctor I've ever come into contact with. It was difficult to follow her logic. She made a number of assumptions (along the lines of: "it's all in your head") and I ended up having to talk her into ruling out different causes (all the while thinking that her basic responsibility as a physician was to come up with a differential diagnosis and look into different possibilities). My husband had also been prescribed Gabapentin for the pain a few weeks before. When asked about side effects, she stated that there are absolutely none... not short or long-term, which is completely false. I thought we would have an intelligent discussion about the risks and benefits of… taking this medication. Dr Fernandez also selected a diagnosis code that did not match the procedure code for the Nerve Conduction Study my husband eventually had to to rule out nerve damage. I am still in the process of sorting out this issue with the office in order that our insurance will cover the procedure. I am completely unimpressed. I can handle poor bedside manner just fine. Not so much the practice of poor medicine.

I had scheduled an appointment after my adult son had moved to the area and I shared his medical records and back ground as a new patient as he has a seizure disorder and requires a neurologist , and I was impressed that when she entered the room she had already read through my sons records (I provided at check in) and she already had a brief overview before entering the room she was very receptive and knowledgeable , both my son and I both felt very comfortable with the visit and will continue seeing her as his Neurologist.

Entire visit was a waste of time and money. I was referred to her by my PCP after having suffered a stroke. She arrived 45 min late. No apology, no introduction, asked me why I was there! Belittled my explanation, contradicted herself on whether I had also suffered a concussion, and whether PT was called for. Was unprepared, obviously not familiar with my file. Said she didn't have test results, later was referencing one of them. Didn't solicit, nor want to hear any questions. Poor interpersonal skills.

Referred to by my pcp for recent cognitive issues...this Dr spent2 min doing cognitive assessment and spent the rest of the time berating me and lecturing me on my life style choices.... Then had the nerve to bill me as my insurance didn't cover the appointment....really I was referred by my pcp....what a joke and a nightmare...bad personal skills with this one

I took my 66 year old brother with a cognitive disorder to see Dr Fernandez today. She had already reviewed his patient file that was transferred from Calif (those file transfers rarely go according to plan and I’ve never had a dr actually review it first.) She was kind with my brother trying to help him understand her requests. She took extra effort to put him at ease because she could see he was anxious. She spoke to him directly and didn’t defer to us to speak for him. She was respectful to him. She was on time also. Her MA, Valerie, was a dream. My brother acts goofy and silly much of the time and Valerie went with the flow and she, too, was kind and caring. Both my sister and I walked out of there confident that this is the perfect fit for our brother.

Rude doctor and horrible staff. Don’t trust your health in the hands of this doctor. Literally the worst experience in my medical history I’ve ever experienced. Extremely disappointed!
