Dr. Douglas B Haghighi, MD

I don't think I've ever met a more rude, dismissive physician in my life. I have an extensive medical history and have had many wonderful providers care for me over the years. This guy seems super intense and takes himself way too seriously. My first (and only) visit was super rushed, he talked over me, treated me like I'm not intelligent (but I very much am, especially when it comes to the medical field), and got frustrated with me when I didn't quite catch his very rushed and poorly presented instructions for a treatment plan. He is all over the board with his conversation and has zero interest in getting to know you or hearing your experiences. He clearly wanted to move on to his next task for the day. Alaska doesn't have many GI docs, but I can assure there are far better ones here than this bloke! If you want to be treated with patience, kindness, and/or compassion, do not see this provider. How can it be so hard to be kind to another person - someone who is trusting their… health with you? Dr. H sure could benefit from some serious training in bedside manners. Good standard of care AND good standard of caring makes good doctors.

(First appointment) The wait time was low and my nurse was very sweet. That said, the doctor himself was incredibly rude and dismissive. He ignored all my suspicions and inappropriately kept repeating how inaccurate my guesses were, only to not go into any detail about another option or potential cause. He made extremely inappropriate assumptions of my lifestyle and suggestions based on it. Lastly he said how I was there for his opinion in response to my concerns. I left feeling on edge of tears and requested a transfer same day. Will never see or recommend this man.

I am a retired hospital RN and nervous about getting my first endoscopy and colonoscopy. Dr. Haghighi listened to all my fears and was able to calm me down enough to have it done. He also helped me with a chronic nausea problem with a second endoscopy last month. He is an effective active listener with a gentle bedside manner. Was there for me before and after each procedure to make sure I was OK and share his observations. He has a great smile and is easy to talk to.

We were referred to this Doctor's office for a second opinion after a liver cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, this doctor isn't the correct doctor to treat cancer and I'm not sure why we were directed here to begin with from our primary physician, but the events leading up to this appointment and following was the most unpleasant experience for our family. Beginning with a wait time of 2 months to schedule an appointment, the Doctor disregarded the cancer and I'm not sure he even took a look at the files. After waiting over a month for a treatment plan and the excuse that they were consulting with doctors in Seattle to come up with the best treatment, we never heard back in time before Dad left Alaska to seek treatment elsewhere. Now that he is back and needs to continue his care, we sought a recommendation to an actual Oncologist. However, this doctor and the office is failing to provide us with the documents we need, and instead, recommended us to another doctor (not Oncologist) and… could not answer basic questions about the referral itself. Upon contacting them finally about their treatment plan now that they had one, the notes stated a colonoscopy, which does not make sense in this situation. Something is off, and the medical staff and front desk staff seem to have the worst customer service as I was recently hung up on when I tried to correct their inconsistent policies. They kept stating HIPAA though we had previous authorization for the patient's records and to minimize the language barrier. Worst bedside manners and incorrect treatment plan. Insistent office policies with records and rude staff.

When you become a patient of Dr. Haghighi you receive all the information you need to make a decision about your care. He thoroughly explains everything to you before any procedure as well as after the procedure. No question goes unanswered. I highly recommend Dr. Haghighi without reservation.

If you expect a follow-up call after your procedure don't go to this Dr Haghighi. Since this was my first colonoscopy I had no idea I had "excessive looping". This made the procedure extremely painful. I kept telling the doctor how uncomfortable I was-- I've had two natural childbirths so I can tolerate pain. He scoped me 3 times and never once asked if I needed a minute or if I wanted to stop. I was complaining verbally so everyone knew how I was hurting. I had to call the office 2 days later to ask about filing a complaint. Then he called and was very arrogant and unwilling to take any suggestions of how his bedside manner and follow-up could be improved--especially since I apparently was more difficult based on the excessive looping. He's suppose to be the medical expert. I had to google what that meant since NO ONE EVER FOLLOWS UP. I will never go back and plan to relay to as many his poor care.

Never once has called to ck up on patient. Very quick in office, could not diagnos a twisted bowel. Would send to outside office clinic for pain meds, not impressed with gastro knowledge, never to return
