Dr. Douglas Sears, MD

Arrogant and uneducated. Many years ago he gave my son medication that is KNOWN to cause weight gain, but then accused my son of overeating. Medication was changed and my son was suffering. We changed psychiatrists and saw Dr. DeAntonio, head of UCLA Adolescent Psychiatry. He told us that Dr. Sears not only had my son on the WRONG MED, but that he also put him on the WRONG DOSE if it had even been the right medication. My son was prescribed a new med and he flourished! Dr. Sears, his incompetence and his arrogance have no place in helping children..

My 26 year old son has been treated for Autism with medication by Dr. Sears for 15 years. He was prescribed secondary use medications to treat symptoms described by his mother when he was 10 years old and never carefully reevaluated. Appointments that I attended with my son and Dr. Sears consisted of Dr. Sears speaking to my son like a child and asking him "How ya doing?" "Are you going to school?" then asking for permission to get his blood work results from his regular Dr. appointment. My son was weened off the medications because of hand tremors (he plays guitar) and has been off over a year with no ill effects and presents as much brighter and coherent now. Dr. Sears was asked by the court to provide a report evaluating my son's condition since being off medication. After charging $1200 for the report Dr. Sears dragged his feet providing the report and when he finally did it provided no evaluation of my son's current condition only providing a history of his interaction with my son… and opinions about things he wasn't asked to comment on. Since the hearing was soon my attorney told me to ask him to send the report he had and to tell him the formatting wasn't important. When he did finally produce the report he emailed it out with a 24 font size with no punctuation, in a very childish display noticed by the court. Why was my son on medication for 15 years if he's doing better than ever without it? Dr Sears doesn't know and refuses to acknowledge his mistake.

Dr. Sears spoke with me for about 5 minutes, and then spoke with my dad (I was a teenager at the time) about my "behavior problems" and I was prescribed anti depressants that did nothing for me when I specifically told him I had anxiety. Don't go to him he's bribed by pharmaceutical reps

He is smart, wise, kind, up to date on his field.

Dr. Sears has been a lifesaver for me and my 10 year old son. He's caring, compassionate and takes an interest in all aspects of our lives, our total wellness. I cannot recommend him enough and cannot imagine what we would do without him!

Having taken my young son to see this Dr. for over 2 years now, I can tell you he doesn't care for his patients. He spends so little time and doesn't listen when you have a question. He has his back to you the entire visit while at his desk and is not capable of having any meaningful discussion about the problems. He is robotic and just wants to get you in and out. Same 3 questions every time we are there and then goodbye and here's a prediction. He lacks true compassion and interests in his patients. He has some social skills issues, and perhaps, he needs a therapists for himself.

Dr. Sears did not properly diagnose and treat my condition. I am very disappointed.

This doctor is amazing! Took his time, was very thorough, kind and attentive. He went above and beyond in every way to find solutions for my 7 year old son's ADHD. If you want the best, call Dr. Sears. When trying to find a psychiatrist for my son, I called doctors that were referred to me. None were taking new patients. I reached out to 12 doctors total. Most didn't bother to return my calls, the ones that did wanted to rake me over the coals with exorbitant fees. Dr. Sears office returned my call in 5 minutes, 30 minutes later I had an appointment. I am so impressed with this physician!

My son went to see Dr. Sears because he was suicidal. My son started acting very depressed. I called Dr. Sears to let him know, and because my son was 21, Dr. Sears would not return my calls. My son committed suicide a few days later.
