Dr. Alfred K Hicks JR., DO

I had C5-C7 fusion surgery performed by Dr. Hicks on 2/1/23. He recommended the surgery after an MRI revealed 2 herniated discs in my neck pushing into my spinal cord. The disc herniations caused me to have constant pain and regular headaches for 3 years prior to surgery. The 2 months prior to surgery I could not walk without terrible pain radiating through my left shoulder, down my arm and into my hand and fingers. I am now 6 months post surgery and my pain is completely gone. I had 12 sessions of physical therapy mandated by Dr. Hicks post surgery that helped my recovery. I was able to resume strength training and light jogging by mid-May and my strength has improved dramatically. The tingling in my hand is 99% gone. I have Dr. Hicks and his staff to thank for fixing a very complex problem. I could not be happier with his skill as a surgeon and I'm in the best condition I have been in in years. I highly recommend Dr. Hicks.

Dr, Hicks is, without a doubt, the most thoughtless, unprepared and rude dr. I have ever seen. During the current Covid crisis, despite all the security procedures in place for patients, he wears the bottom of his mask untied. When I asked him to tie it -I’m immunocompromised and can’t take chances - he complained about having to wear it all day and then, after fumbling theatrically, tied it loosely. But even worse is that he never reviews your chart before coming in, so the few minutes he spends with you are spent with him trying to figure out who you are and why you are there. If you dare ask him questions about your prognosis or possible treatments, he is vague if not unresponsive. I have a wonderful hip dr in the same practice and have since switched my spine care to a wonderful doctor at Yale. No one deserves the shoddy treatment this man offers.

Dr. Hicks is amazing at what he does. He is one of the few doctors that will TAKE HIS TIME with you. Answer all your questions. Answer questions you didn’t even know you wanted answered. With three bulging discs - I wouldn’t trust “my back” to anyone else. Make an appointment - He will help you!

Highly recommend Dr Hicks easy to talk to and cares about his patients issues knows his job checks every option before surgery i had to have surgery and went way better than expected because he prepares you very well again thank you Dr Hicks
