Dr. Arthur Cole Nilson, DO

He takes time to explain the ultrasounds and to know exactly what your looking at, and answers all my questions. He is very personable and makes you feel like your a friend not just a patient.

I rarely write bad reviews even if I have a bad experience. Normally I will just quietly move on with my life. However, I went in to see Dr. Nilson approximately a year ago for some specific symptoms I was having like extreme fatigue and thinning hair. This was the second time I had brought up my fatigue and low metabolism as well as a few other issues to him. He always brushed it off on my PCOS and told me I just had to "take myself out of the race" when trying to lose weight and measuring how I was feeling. On my visit a year ago however, I insisted on further blood work. He told me he *knew* it would come back just showing my PCOS but that he would do it anyway. Several vials of blood and a couple of weeks later my results still had not been posted on the portal, nor had I heard from anyone in his office so I gave them a call. They told me that the bloodwork they had received back so far was normal. I assumed if anything was amiss beyond that they would call me. Meanwhile my… symptoms persisted and I assumed I just had to live with it. Fast forward a year and I hop on the portal to make an appointment for my yearly exam which was overdue and I scroll down to find that the bloodwork from a year before had been posted and several things are outside of the normal range that could contribute to my symptoms, such as my Vitamin D being low - which is easily treated had I known. I requested an appointment through the portal, no response. I called in a few days later to make the appointment and am told my account has been frozen due to a past due balance of $35. Long story short, the front desk tells me they can't even send a message back to the nurse nor see any of my info until I call another number, pay the $35, get a code, call back, have the billing department verify my code, etc. I ask if they can at least let the nurse know the situation in the meantime. Nope. She finally agreed to jot a note on a post it and when I thought to ask her if she had my number since she claimed she couldn't see anything of my account on her screen she said no. She had no intention of even taking my number. Fast forward fifteen minutes after I had paid the bill and called back and had it explained to me for the umpteenth time that they can't get a message to the nurse or the doctor until it's verified I've paid my bill, etc. and I eventually just told them nevermind, not to bother calling me back for an appointment. The only reason I'm even writing this is because it's clear their communication skills are so poor that Dr. Nilson will likely never even hear about this. With that being said, it's his responsibility to have oversight over the bloodwork he orders which wasn't done in the first place. I definitely don't recommend this office if you want actual attentive care and communication.

I LOVE DR. NILSON. I am SHOCKED by the reviews on here. Some of these reviews are so frustrating because so many people could possibly be steered away from such an amazing doctor all because people didn’t like the fact that they had to wait an extra 20 minutes. *eye roll* Dr. Nilson was so loving, comforting, and helpful during my husband and I’s Infertility journey. He diagnosed and treated me for stage 2 endometriosis and blocked tubes when other doctors wouldn’t have treated me for infertility because my husband and I hadn’t been trying for children for a year yet. During my diagnostic laparoscopy, Dr. Nilson stood by me and held my hand while I laid on the operating table until I fell asleep from the anasthesia because he knew I was scared. THAT is what separates him from the rest. He could have stayed out of the room until I was asleep. He could have chosen to wait at the other end of the room. Nope. He chose to stand right there next to me and let me know that we were in this… together. He truly cares about you and is fully invested. Does he talk fast? Yes. Is his office busy? Yes. You will be in and out if you schedule your appointments first thing in the morning. He’s always behind in the afternoons because HE TAKES TIME SPEAKING WITH EVERY SINGLE PATIENT! That’s why your wait is longer than expected! It’s because he uses his appointments with every single patient to answer their questions and doesn’t rush though it because of the time of the clock! Also, just like every other person in the world, you aren’t going to have a close/warm relationship if you two just met, but I promise that if you give it time you will not be disappointed! My husband and I will be forever grateful for Dr. Nilson!

Tulsa Women's Healthcare was referred to me by my PCP. I was in need of a surgical consult for some sensitive issues. I had only heard good things about Dr Nilson so was confident he could help. Unfortunately, these review were from those who needed general OBGYN services. So needless to say I was taken back when Dr Nilson wanted to do an internal examine on me without a Nurse present. I had also had a CT scan done previous to my visit which he refused to look at stating "those are only done to charge you more money and are unnecessary. " I left his office wondering how he could "such a great Dr." I then followed up with a general surgeon and come to find out my CT scan was indeed necessary and I required extensive surgery with some revisions. I do not nor will I ever recommend or encourage anyone to go to someone so unprofessional.

I've gone to Dr. Nilson for almost 18 years and have nothing but good to say about him. Does he joke around? Absolutely. If you can't lighten up and have fun back, he's not for you. But as SOON as something serious is going on, the joking switches off and he's amazingly calm and in control. He helped us originally to get pregnant, then he counseled us when there was no heartbeat at 10 weeks, then performed a D&C after I miscarried. He helped us again to get pregnant, and we had two boys with absolutely no issues or problems. He was very attentive with the the two full-term pregnancies after my miscarriage, and I was treated very well. He performed a Da Vinci robotic hysterectomy on me a week ago, and he did an excellent job. I seem to be recovering far more quickly than others who've not had that procedure for their hysterectomies. Not going to lie, the office is my biggest drawback to going there. His staff is VERY hit and miss, usually on the unaware and less than empathetic side,… unfortunately. I SOO wish his practice was small as it was when I started with him in my 20s, but it is what it is. :-/ Once I do start talking to most of the staff, though, they warm up and have or at least find out the right answers... usually... If it takes you months to get in to see him, it is either an error or your first time, which isn't out of the norm for excellent doctors. His PA Megan is excellent, so she might be a good choice for a first-time visit. I'd imagine she would be easier to get an appointment with. (She's also more quiet and serious, which might be a good idea if you prefer that attitude. Then you have Dr. Nilson on hand to back her up in any serious event.) But once you're a patient of his, it shouldn't take long to see him. I usually get in within a week or two at most. If you've seen Scrubs, he's VERY much like Dr. Cox (even looks kind of like him!), with very witty or British humor. However, he's NOT rude to you like Dr. Cox is to everyone) , he's no more inappropriate than any other jokes I hear from other professionals these days, and he is absolutely wonderful in emergency situations. I couldn't have ended up with a better OBGYN. I'm glad I left my other two behind to give his office a try so many years ago! OH! One more thing. He is rushed, but honestly, so are all of my other doctors in other practices. Pediatrician, family doctor... Not their fault when the office crams so many of us into their schedule. But if you throw his attitude right back at him and essentially not let him leave, he will absolutely answer all of your concerns and questions. No doctor is going to sit quietly and drag questions out of you for half an hour. Just be bold and not a timid wallflower, and you'll get much more out of life. And your doctor's appointments..

Dr. Nilson has too many patients and is in a huge rush when he sees you. He also doesn't like when people ask questions and will get defensive or shrug it off and make a joke

Liked Dr Nilson, but a terribly rude staff. Not willing to return calls, answer questions, or get you in for an appt if not pregnant. My wait time was 7 months. When I tried to tell the lady at the desk what another girl had told me she said "BYE"

Dr. Nilson is a great doctor! He successfully led us through a difficult pregnancy! He and his staff are the best!

He never informed me that my glucose screening was severely abnormal. I was so sick and swollen and the protein in my urine was brushed off. It wasn't until I was already a week from going into labor that I changed OBGYNs and was immediately tested positive for Gestational Diabetes and Preeclampsia. No wonder I was so sick. Not to mention the inappropriate flirtatious comments that he made. Yes, sometimes he was funny and definitely attractive, but not worth the health of me and my baby. He put us at risk for having severe complications because he ignored my symptoms.

Dr Nilson was a horrible choice for me! Everything is a joke to him... but nothing is funny...only uncomfortable. He was completely rushed and took no time to explain things to my husband and I. As first time parents you would think a doctor would understand you have questions and concerns... he didn't. He preformed a vaginal exam where he left the door open while I was spread eagle on the table! He then reaches OVER me to close it! It was extremely uncomfortable and I left crying! I would not recommend him to anyone who wants to have a calm doctor or someone who wants their questions answered!
