Dr. Brian Weiling Fukushima, MD

Dr. Fukushima has done laser surgery on both of my shoulders. He has also given me shots in my hips. He is kind and a great listener. He explains medical issues very well and gives alternatives to surgery where appropriate. He takes time to get to know you and helps you understand your issues.

Dr. Fukishima performed four procedures on my right shoulder over 5 years ago. Bankart,Slap,Rotator cuff and Decompression all in one surgery. He said he felt the surgery was rock solid. He stated specifically what would need to be done in order to maintain the integrity of the work. Don't try to do too much too fast ( he gave a specific timeline). when it's time for PT follow everything they say. Work SLOWLY back to full function. I followed his advice exactly and today the shoulder has full function & mobilty. I understand that some people don't have the Luxury of time that is often required for complicated surgeries to heal correctly and that some people try to do too much too fast and reinjure. Keeping in mind that the reinjury may not be able to be repaired as solid the second time I would suggest erring on the cautious side during recovery. That said the shoulder functions perfectly, I'm 53 and I have changed the way I lift and carry but I still move 50 - 100 lb boxes routinely.… I can only speak from my experience but this is a very complex set of procedures on a very complex joint area & it works like it was never injured ( it was pretty torn up). This guy has my respect and gratitude.

Dr. Fukushima is AMAZING!! He has done two surgeries for my Husband and one for my son and the way Dr. Fukushima explains the procedures makes it so easy to understand. He is extremely knowledgeable and shows complete care for his patients. I cannot thank Dr. Fukushima enough for taking care of my husband and my son. I would never go with another surgeon besides Dr. Fukushima.

Dr F was on call the weekend that I injured my leg. After communicating with the ER staff at LDS hospital he called my home and had me meet him at his office Monday morning before office hours. He verified his diagnosis and had me added to his morning surgery schedule. The surgery went well even though the damage was a little more extensive than estimated. I was I would be off soccer fields for a year! With his help, TOSH and yoga, I was running in 6 months and out of the Breg brace in just over a year. This doctor was great to work with, easy to talk to, thorough and professional. I highly recommend him.

I went to a regular ortho and we spent alot of time and money rehabbing a knee that was swelling up each day after a half marathon race One year later I decided it wasn't getting better and it was time for a second opinion. I went to Dr. Fukashima and he had it completely cleared up in a week. He knew the problems you get with sports. He is a doctor that gives you all the options and information that you need to make a good decision. I have also had now tennis elbow that he cleared up and a surgery on my shoulder from a hiking surgery. I would recommend him completely. One more note... Don't do surgery if all possible with anyone unless it unbearable, it is a huge expense, stops your life for at least a couple of months. We all want to take the easiest way out but this is not the easiest!!!.

Someone said they wouldn't recommend this Dr. to a friend. I wouldn't recommend him to enemies either. He repaired my knee after a ski accident, but the screw worked its way out. That may or may not have been his fault, but when I went to him to fix the problem he made it worse. Required multiple treatment with associated expense and threat of lawsuit. Now my knee is unstable and I will probably have to undergo further surgery. Rest assured I wont go to Dr. Fukishima.

Great guy, very knowledgeable. It has been 6 months now and my knee is still not stable. Brian told me it would feel like new by the 5th to 6th month mark, and still in pain. I think he is not aware of work environments he sends you back into. I told him I deliver 20,000-30,000 pounds a night, and he insisted that I return after 8 weeks, after surgery. Also, I told him I hurt my hamstring at physical therapy, and there was no examination for the "tear feeling I had". He told me the pain would go away of taking it easy for a week, during physical therapy. To this day I still have pain there too... I think doctors should listen to there patients and not the money they can make from your illness... I will not take away that he is a great guy, but he promises a healthy knee, and can't follow through. If you have a very physical job like me, tell him how things are going to pan out so you don't end up like me.

Dr. Fukushima is an excellent health care professional. I received arthroscopic surgery on my right shoulder for a bankart lesion. The surgery was an amazing success with minimal scarring. I was able to return to playing full contact sports within a few months and now I'm doing better than ever. He put me into contact with a great physical therapist and he was very supportive during our follow up visits. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a highly skilled surgeon.
