The whole experience at my first meeting with Dr Caruthers was pleasing. The whole staff was professional, compassionate and easy to talk to. Dr Caruthers listen to our concerns. I feel very comfortable under his care and look forward to a new hip.

Was in a lot of pain with my hip and knee and he did an excellent job fixing both. I work with a friend who had his knee done about the same time as I did with a different surgeon and yes I was in pain for a while but he said he was in a lot more pain and discomfort than I was

Dr. Caruthers took time to lister to my history, my recent issues and develop a plan that made sense to me and included me as the patient. He was kind, explained everything well and did not make me feel like a hypochondriac when I was seeking a second opinion. Highly recommend!!!

Dr. Caruthers was very straight with me about what to expect. My hip was in very bad shape and changed my ability to be independent. After a home same day joint replacement I’m in less pain then I’ve been in months. Staff was efficient and informative. Thanks OSS for improving my life!

Dr Caruthers replaced my right hip in January and left knee in March. He and his team were very accommodating of my needs and travel requirements - we drove five hours from VA to see Dr Caruthers. He was very thorough, skilled as a surgeon, explained things well, and had a great bedside manner. Thanks Dr. Caruthers.

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Caruthers regarding a possible hip replacement, and unfortunately it was a very upsetting experience. From the moment he entered the room, he was cold and unapproachable—no greeting, no smile, no attempt to make me feel at ease. I am fully aware that I am overweight and that weight loss is important prior to surgery. I had hoped to discuss scheduling surgery several months out while actively working on weight loss. Instead, my concerns were met with what felt like dismissive and condescending behavior, including an attitude that made me feel judged rather than supported. The discussion about risks such as infection and even losing a limb was delivered without compassion, and I left feeling talked down to rather than cared for. I was also made to feel uncomfortable and judged for explaining why I currently take prescribed pain medication to function day to day. I understand doctors must be honest, but bedside manner matters—especially when… patients are already in pain and vulnerable. I left this appointment in tears and would not recommend Dr. Caruthers. Compassion costs nothing, and unfortunately none was shown. I would urge others to consider this before scheduling an appointment with him especially if you are seeking a compassionate or supportive orthopedic doctor.
