Dr. Gruenstein is the Chief of Cardiology at the U of Chicago. He has won awards for Compassionate Care and Patients' Choice awards and it shows!

Dr. Gruenstein is an expert in minimally invasive ways of fixing heart disease in kids. He has won awards for his compassionate care and for being one of the best doctors in the country.

We have a beautiful little girl with a rare heart defect. Friends of ours are health care providers & said Dr Gruenstein is a world expert in treating heart problems in kids. He is the GREATEST! Our daughter's heart is fixed and he helped us all get through it. Thank you Dr G!!!

We chose to see Dr. Gruenstein because we had researched our daughter's disease and found that he is considered an expert in the U.S. in fixing this, and several other types of congenital heart disease. He spent an incredible amount of time explaining to us why our daughter needed to have her cardiac procedure. He described the options, including the cutting-edge techniques that he performs, and took time to answer all of our questions. He took great care of our daughter (and us!) and because of techniques that he is an expert in using, her recovery was much faster than we had expected.

We have always been very pleased with the care Dr. Gruenstein has given our daughter. She has undergone 2 heart cath procedures with Dr. G. He has an excellent bedside manner and has always answered all the questions we have had for him before a procedure, even when we think of them after we've left the appointment. His skill level is incredible, he is an expert in the devices he uses and as someone said, trains other doctors in the use of the devices. He has always followed up with us extensively in the hospital, even though he was not the primary cardioliogst responsible for our daughter. When my daughter had a complication from a cath procedure which resolved shortly on it's own, his follow care of her was excellent. Our daugher has complex issues and we so apprecaite the way he has guided us through some difficult decisions about her care...being honest with us and guiding us through that process from the perspective of another parent who truly cares about our daughter, not just… a doctor.

Dr. Gruenstein's bedside manner was outstanding. We were so worried about our daughter and he was so understanding, spent so much time with us, and answered all of our questions. He is one of the leading experts in the country in the device that they used to fix her heart (he teaches other cardiologists in the country to perform the procedure). Everything went terrific and he's continued to be great with our family.

Initially, we really liked Dr. Gruenstein because he has a pleasant bedside manner and did a great job answering the many questions that we had about our daughter's complex heart defect. We have allowed him to perform experimental procedures on our daughter, and although he does a great job when he's in the cath lab, his follow up has been frighteningly lacking. When we call with valid concerns, it would be nice if he would answer our questions, and perform the diagnostic tests needed to determine whether or not his experimental procedure really worked the way he expected it to.
