Dr. Debra A Becker, MD

My mother is her 89-year-old patient. Mother was diagnosed with a blood clot six months ago, (after Becker sent her for the ultrasound), and NOT ONCE did Becker talk with her by phone about it. Becker simply left a note for prescription medicine and to schedule an appt in six months. My mother also had had back surgery and ongoing back pains, and we were looking into the possibility of getting an injection for her. Unfortunately, the medicine for the clot would forbid that procedure. So, my mother's primary provider, my sister, my mother, and my physician-husband all called Becker and left various messages to discuss the epidural in light of her medicine and to discuss options. Becker did not return anyone's call for TWO or THREE weeks (including two left by medical providers). That is outright unacceptable and inexcusable. When we did finally speak with her, we only got the message that her answer was "NO" to he injection. No discussion about what else we could do - nothing… from her at all. Next, we called Becker after four months to see if she would order/schedule an ultrasound for the clot to coincide with my mother's six-month visit. Becker refused and just said she would see my mother at her six-month visit. Again, just inexcusable. I accompanied my mother to her six-month visit. Becker was extremely rude and condescending, and she repeatedly cut me off and told me that I had to let HER finish talking. She appeared quite put-off that we actually had questions and acted as if she could not wait to get us out of there. Of course, Becker wants my mother to get a follow up ultrasound of her clot because no one has scheduled anything for her in six months, but again, that is Becker's fault and a total absence of any interim follow-up. My mother's legs are also swollen, so Becker now wants her to see a vascular surgeon as well. I explained that my mother is limited in transportation and relies on her friends or us to drive her, and that my sister and I were trying to plan her medical visits and that is why we wanted everything done on the same day. Becker shrugged and said that she could not, and would not plan anything until she saw the ultrasound. Well, maybe she could have scheduled it for that same day if she had bothered to listen to us months ago. In any event, Becker's response was to give us the name of the vascular group and said no problem - we would get an appointment within two weeks that would complete an ultrasound for her clot and one for her arteries. I asked her then - if the ultrasound shows that the clot were still there but much smaller, what are our next steps? Becker said that she would see my mom in 3-6 months if the clot were still there. So, knowing that we have to plan for my mother's visits and transportation, I suggested that we schedule an appointment for three months out and then change it, if necessary, depending on what the ultrasound shows. Becker absolutely refused to do so and repeatedly said to me, in a very nasty way, that she cannot and will not "plan" anything until she looks at the clot. This approach is nonsense and shows that she does not care at all about her patients beyond practicing the minimal amount of medicine to avoid a lawsuit. Of course, when we called to make my mother's appointment for the ultrasounds, the first available slot was November 3. So, now too, we are calling Becker's office AGAIN and AGAIN to see what to do - my mother should not, and cannot wait EIGHT months to get a follow-up ultrasound of her leg clot. I believe that Becker does not like to be challenged, nor does she enable people to ask questions or advocate for a patient. MY mother does not know what questions to ask, and I find Becker's manner to be attempted bullying at me and dismissive to my mother. If I had read some of these comments, I might not have seen her. I found her to be very competent, professional with just the right touch of friendliness and some light joking during the virtual stress test that put me at ease and relaxed me. I have no issue with recommending her!

Sent me for unnecessary testing at great expense. Rude and unhelpful. Avoid at all costs
