Dr. Digna Marlene Acosta, MD

I have seen Dr Acosta twice. The first visit I did not know what to expect and was in a lot of pain with my right shoulder and arm before going in to see Dr Acosta so it was very painful when she moved my arm to do a manipulation on the muscle going from my shoulder blade into my arm and right away I could feel the tightness was gone then she did an injection in the shoulder joint to help with the inflammation and pain. The shoulder was still pretty painful until the adjustment and shot took effect but now the shoulder is better although not completely healed but it is because I have bone spurs on my shoulder bones. Second visit was my left shoulder I knew what to expect that time so I was much more prepared I took some Ibuprofen before going to appointment so it wasn't as painful as before. Dr Acosta really is a caring effective medical doctor and I would highly recommend her. Dr Acosta thank you for helping me so much. Sincerely, Donna

Do not allow this woman to put her hands on you! I went to the office because I had alot of pain in my shoulder for 4 days and could barely get my pants on. Going on a Monday I had an horrific experience seeing Digna Acosta who had me stand against the wall with my arm in front of me. I h rseeing Digna Acosta who I put my arm against the wall and rotated it like a clock and circled the wall. When I was not able to go any further she literally man handled me and forced my arm back. This really hurt me that I screamed as my body turned towards the wall. The balance of the appt was no better and a very unusual experience in it's entirety. Yes...STAY AWAY!!!! She is a Big Bully. If you have to go don't go alone.

In a time where doctors rush you out the door bc they have so many patients to see, Dr. Acosta still takes her time. She goes over everything with you, and tries to get to the bottom of what is going on. She does not shrug off your concerns, and pays attention to your needs. I find Dr. Acosta to be caring and compassionate. You might have to wait a little to see her, but that only bc she doesn’t rush with her patients, and gives the time needed. She is worth the wait. I’m glad Dr. Acosta is at Island Doctors.

Dr.Acosta did stem cell on my elderly mothers knee. Her appointment was at 11:00 and she left after 6pm! Aside from waiting over an hour in the waiting room to be called back for her appointment, she then waited an additional hour in the (cold) treatment room! No one checked on her, no one asked if she was ok, no one apologized for the delay! My mother's follow up appointment was no better. When my mother advised Dr. Acosta that her knee is still hurting the same as before the stem cell surgery, Dr. Acosta said, "how much did this surgery cost you?". My elderly mother is on medicare (naturally, due to her age'') so why did it matter that the surgery was of NO COST to my mother? Did that mean, since it didn't cost her anything, it was OK, that Dr. Acosta's surgery was not a success?? I'd like to know what Dr.Acosta meant by that. On my mother's second follow up appointment, she again arrived on time, signed in and was greeted by, NO ONE. Front desk window was shut. When another… patient showed up and knocked on the window, my mother advised the front desk girl that she has been there for an hour. She asked if the doctor was in, and the front desk girl said "Yes, she is here" and shut the window again!! No explanation. No, "I'm sorry you've been waiting so long"...nothing. Needless to say, after another long wait, with no communication, my mother LEFT the office. My mom has always been happy with Island Doctors and especially with Dr. Hinman, but someone needs to evaluate the treatment patients are receiving from the front desk AND Dr. Acosta. Very Poor

Does not listen. Could not answer any of my questions about my test results. Abrasive manner, rude. Slovenly dressed, dirty hair, quite obese & behaved like she was suffering from depression. I finally just walked out. All the Island Drs. & PA's I've been to over the years have been wonderful. This one not Island Doctor worthy.

Takes the time to see what is wrong with you and to make sure your total health is in order and not just one area. Highly recommend her to someone looking for a caring doctor with personal attention.

Excellent doctor who genuinely cares and takes the time to listen and explain.

This doctor spends time going over your history and how you are feeling. She is very observant and caring. I can tell she is not working based on what insurance companies want, but what is really in the best interest of her patient. I really appreciate finding a doctor like this.

Spends a good amount of time, really listens and cares about you. Very intelligent Doctor who cares.
