Dr. Eric Paul Helfer, MD

Horrible experience with Dr. Helfer. He stood by the door majority of the visit and was rushing. He only opened my chart because I questioned what he said with a concerned look on my face. I only went because my PCP sent me for a follow up UTI. If you are dealing with anything major, I definitely wouldn’t recommend him. Horrible bed side manners. Dr. Patel is great though.

The initial visit prior to the prostate biopsy was very quick and Dr. Helfer was in and out like a flash. I had wanted to ask him if he had reviewed my husband’s medical history and if was aware of husbands Crohn’s disease and how that might impact the prostate biopsy. Didn’t follow up with that question assuming patient history was reviewed routinely and perhaps it didn’t make a difference anyway. Two days after the office prostate biopsy procedure, my husband contracted a serious ESBL bacterial infection and was hospitalized for 5 days and had to have IV home therapy for one month, all from a procedure performed in the office by Dr. Helfer. The results visit with Dr. Helfer ended with me asking if the cancer was encapsulated or out of capsule. He replied it could be out and if WE wanted, he could order a PET Scan for further testing. Had I not asked this follow up question, the PET Scan would not have been suggested or ordered because he was finished.

He didn't even ask me if I had kidney stones previously but told my primary doctor I told him I never had kidney stones. He spent about 5 minutes with me and said if I ever have blood in my urine to come back. And he questioned why I was given an antibiotic for a UTI when most of the time they clear up in 7 to 10 days. Like I prescribed it for myself. He practically had one foot out the door the whole 5 minutes he was with me. My first time writing a negative review but I hope this helps others.

easy to talk with and easy to understand. great office personnel and staff. everyone was professional and still down to earth.

I find him a caring physician, but he lacks some problem solving skills...and some confidence. Last year when my family member saw him...he did not take seriously that my family member was off a blood thinner, and had no interest in contacting the other provider. Didn't see the need for a TURP in older men...put my family member through extra ureteroscope when he lacked a biopsy tool. Fortunate we saw a provider at a Chicago hospital...but my parent's case was complicated. If he is your physican...and your case is more complicated...get a second opinion.

I found the Dr. lacking in seriousness while explaining the results of tests. Arrogant somewhat, even, to the point, and indifference to my privacy, thoughts and feeling.

My father was giving a new shot (triptorelin pamoate) for his prostate cancer. After he recieved rhis shot he suffered a TIA, he ended up in the hospital for four days. Today my father had a "chat" dr. Helfer. His arrogants, harsh tone, and constant interruptions of my father, left my father and us feeling belittled and consered about my fathers furture health. My father was not told the possible side effects of this new shot. Dr.Hefler has been inpersonal, sterile, and lacking ANY bed side manner!

All of his staff has been very good towards me. DR Helfer has been top notch in correcting my health problems. He and his nurse have been very patient and kind toward me.

He didn't seem to care about what I was experiencing, he didn't hear me because he didn't listen. He got a clear x-ray for kidney stones, so he left my symptoms and pain unresolved.

This young professional is exactly that. I am very impressed by my observations while caring for his patients.
