Dr. James Clay Copher, MD

Went in for a hernia and he spent the entire appointment telling me that the symptoms I was experiencing the week prior were not believable. I described the bloating I was suffering from, which was observed and confirmed by my primary at the time. He insisted on arguing this point even as I was open to it being from something other than the hernia. To be repeatedly told that "I don't believe that", was unreal. First hernia in my life, first surgery I will have to get and this was my experience in my initial consultation with him. Would never return.

Just like other Dr. s when they can’t figure out what is wrong there isn’t anything wrong. He told me he would go in with a camera to see what is the problem then when I call to schedule he doesn’t want anything to do with it. If there is a question what you’re problem is don’t go to him. He only wants what’s easy. Same as half the doctors out there. If you want someone to care go to someone else.

OIMOHO&E = Huge EGO, very condescending, bullying disabled wife/POA - won't listen, disrespects Patient's other Medical Physicians & their POA - Caregiver. Probably made error in surgery - not admitted, IMOHO, then tried to force Transfusion when wasn't yet medically necessary to cover bippy, IMOHO, Plus attempted to elicit consent when patient was unable to be cogent (RN contradicted Medical POA = wife of 24 years - asserting she had undergrad degree in Psychology!!!!) while hubby NOT able to make sense in speaking due to aftermath of anesthesia + having Frontal Lobe Issues DDx'd vie Neuro-psych Test!), because Medical POA refused consent without 1st consulting PCP! We'll make wiser choices, as Northside Hospital imposed him, then refused to reassign to another Doctor, even after seeking Advocate in Hospital (just a note-taker - did nothing to help). Scary to us to the max! Choose your OWN SURGEON carefully!

I was recommended to Dr. Copher by another doctor for an nodule on my Thyroid. He performed a biopsy and it was concluded that the Thyroid needed to be removed. The biopsy came back as benign, but when Dr. Copher did the surgery, there was also a cancerous nodule. Dr. Copher was incredible through the whole process. He spent as much time with us before surgery as we needed. He was thorough during surgery. He conferred with my endocrinologist via a phone call. What I appreciated most was his professionalism, but was also impressed by his personal concern for me and how he included me in all possible choices in every step along the way. He made the whole procedure as good as it could have been. I will return to him if I have any future surgical needs and will recommend him to friends.

Dr. Copher is a very good surgeon, but has no bedside manner - he's a little on the arrogant side. As another doctor said, "that's a surgeon for you!" I do appreciate his work.

Best Surgeon. Very Descriptive and easy to understand.
