Dr. John David Lilly, DO

Dr. Lilly listens carefully and always goes above and beyond to make sure all my concerns are addressed. I have seen him for years and have recommended him to all my friends as the best doctor I have ever had.

I have been a patient of Dr. Lilly's for over 12 years. I have seen him for a broad range of family practice needs. Dr. Lilly is kind, thorough, competent, and attentive. Every single visit and interaction I have had with Dr. Lilly has been positive - I would gladly recommend him to anyone in the Springfield, Missouri area who needs a family practice doctor.

He has always been most polite and friendly, and considerate. I asked him to check a specific area of concern and he was gracious about it. He appears to really listen and not just automatically give you prescriptions, which I really like. And Debbie is awesome.

Dr. Lilly has been the most sensitive and compassionate doctor I have EVER SEEN . I'm a nut and he has the sence of humor that appeals to me . But the most important is his knowledge and treating not just symptoms but compleat cause of complaint. I love him and his staff. Debbie is the greatest I would go nowhere else.

When I get sick, I really hesitate to go to Dr. Lilly. He has makes me feel like I am bothering him and wasting his time when I do come in. Awful "bedside manner" as others have commented. My prescription was incorrect for 6 months and he blamed it on the pharmacy when I know that he is to blame. On a side note, he writes articles in the local paper that make me sick. That combined with his actions have led me to change physicians.

Because of 2 chronic illnesses since 1987, I have been reluctantly stuck in the healthcare system like a kid being kept in for recess for the same amount of time. My circumstance was made a bit easier because I am a nurse, (who was finishing premed when I became ill and had to surrender to the symptoms) and turn my attention to finding ways to function and looking for medical personel who didn't mind working with illnesses that aren't cured with a couple of office visits and a medication or two.It has been difficult these many years since the original dignosis. There have been a few short periods of time where the symptoms seemed to be in a mild remission and I was able to go back to work for short periods of time before they would become disabling again. During this time, I had several different regular physicians with a number of specalists on the side. I always stuck with most of them until circumstances such a move, etc required a new search. The year that Dr. Lilly graduated… and set up his family practice with St. Johns, I happened to be looking for a new family physician, as mine (I had been with him for 6 years) was cutting back his practice to a specific area of specialty that I did not fit into. My insurance sent us a number of names and I chose Dr. Lilly from the list. The first time my husband I went in was to check him out and I told him so. I liked him right away so we chose him and included our young son (now 16) with Aspergers Syndrome in the equation. That was many years ago. I have never been sorry.Some specifics beyond the usual boring questions listed above:1. I found a couple of areas we did not seem to communicate well on. However, being human myself, I understand there are lots of variables in communcation, so I made a few appointments just to talk about these things. I found him receptive, interested in my view point and willing to adjust areas of concern to me.... you can't ask more than that from anyone.2. I found him well informed on most things I asked about and if not, he would reliably have the answer at the next visit. 3. Dr. Lilly is an individual like everyone else. His style can seem a bit guarded, but that is not a big deal and quickly leaves as you get to know each other. 4. He always calls a specialist in if he feels it is not in his realm of experience.5. I know I look for different things than most, probably because of my nursing background and my age and I would unreservedly put Dr. Lilly up against many other of the doctors I have had to interact with, in particular the better know physicians in town who have had to see my children. I could certainly suggest a few lessons in humility, good manners and sensitivity for a number of them....which I would love to oversee personally.Dr. Lilly is a good, solid physican and person. There is nothing in his manner, style or office routine that should prevent anyone from appreciating his skills and bedside manner. Only the grumpy,stubborn, manipulative and thin skinned might find an issue. They would be able to find an issue with anyone. I know the "customer is always right" is the standard most businesses function by. That might have worked in years past when folks had a bit more personal integity about them and trial lawyers had not yet burrowed into society so deeply they are part of the system. Now, if complaints towards anything but blatant malpractice or personal rudeness by the phsican, I pay little attention. Dr. Lilly is my family's physician and has been for a number of years. I am sure we have tried his patience a time or two but always treats us well. I will never willingly switch to anyone else.

I am a professional in the medical field.I could not believe how much he went against the hippocratic oath. He was so unprofessional. He wouldnt give me a antibiotic for tooth decay and told me to go to a dentist but i couldnt afford one and had no insurance for it. My diabetes was out of control and he wouldnt refill my insulin. I could have died.

This guy wants to milk your insurance. I'm not joking. I went in to get an irregular heartbeat looked at and he asked me point-blank, "How good is your insurance?"When I told him it wasn't great, he diagnosed me with heart palpitations and told me I'd grow out of it. His bedside manner is all about Dr. Lilly. He doesn't care about you. I'd recommend shooting yourself in the face before going to see him.

-I was COMPLETELY blown off by him-He did NOT take a pre-existing problem seriously; He tried to minimize it when it still posed a significant threat to my health (i am still having tests run for this). -He was not interested in obtaining my previous medical records, even though i offered then.-He did not recommend follow-up, as he should have according to the Dr. I saw after-I am not confident that he is intersted in caring for patients health
