Very caring Doctor, caught skin cancers and treated on a visit for something else

terrible!

Dr. Shank has been my doctor for several years now after requesting to have him as my PCP after the amazing treatment and care my terminally ill aunt (and our family) received from him AND his staff during her illness and before her passing. Even after she was admitted to hospice care and his services were "no longer needed", he continued to follow up with her and even attended her funeral. As for the care/treatment I have received while under his care has been nothing less than wonderful... With my only "complaint" being the wait time to be seen on appointment days. However, it's definitely not a factor that would cause me to seek care elsewhere. I appreciate the "old fashion values" and quality of care that can still be found at Hope Medical!!!!

He was so obsessed with seeing his chosen course of treatment followed that he never bothered to consult with the specialists who had advised my father to discontinue this particular treatment because at the present time, this same treatment presented too high a risk of death to my father. He persuaded my father to continue this same medicine because he would die without it. When my father's health began failing, I called Shank's office, requesting some assistance for my father, but was told by a staff member that Shank said I was merely overreacting to something minor. I took my father to a medical center in a neighboring city where he spent two weeks in the hospital to again be told he must not take this medication because the risk of death if he continued was just too great. We were also advised to find my father a new family doctor.
