Summary
As the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Livingston is one of the few pediatric orthopaedic trauma specialists in the country. In this role, Dr. Livingston has built a new clinical team structure for orthopaedic trauma care at Boston Children’s to streamline patient care and physician experience. She has also designed a family education program to get patients to the OR more expeditiously, outlined a clinical protocol for complex adolescent trauma, revised treatment protocols for common outpatient fractures, and defined levels of urgency for pediatric orthopaedic trauma diagnoses to help with OR triage.
In her role, Dr. Livingston serves on the COSF Board, the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Leadership Council, the Orthopaedic Quality and Safety Committee, the Clinical Operations Committee, and the Orthopaedic Surgery Clinical Effectiveness Research Center Scientific Review Committee. She has initiated building bridges with the Harvard …Medical School Orthopaedic Trauma Initiative to collaborate with our adult hospitals and has become a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. She serves on multiple committees in POSNA and AAOS.
From a quality perspective, Dr. Livingston is involved at multiple levels, from the Orthopaedic Department USNWR Committee to the hospital-wide PIPS committee, Trauma Management Committee and ACS Level 1 Trauma Program, and the Emergency Management Committee. She is also a member in CORTICES, a pediatric orthopaedic trauma multicenter study group. Dr. Livingston’s research interests include innovative imaging modalities in pediatric orthopaedics and understanding the impact of orthopaedic trauma on children and their families. She is heavily involved in resident and fellow education. Her long-term goal is to create the first pediatric orthopaedic trauma fellowship in the country in the next 5-10 years.
