Dr. Lukasz Jerzy Curylo, MD

3 years ago I slowly began to have hip and shoulder pain . Eventually I was in a , couldn’t walk and couldn’t raise my arms above my head . I was referred to “Dr” Curylo by my primary care Dr . After some tests , he came to my hospital room and told me I have an arachnoid web in my back , and if I didn’t have surgery within a month, I would be paralyzed. I tried to ask him some questions and he took the paperwork and test results and threw them in my lap and said if I wanted a second opinion, I was more than welcome to get another opinion. After another couple weeks, I was in so much pain. I couldn’t take it anymore and I wound up going to Chicago to a concierge doctor where I was diagnosed with PMR and steroids was the only thing that helped me and now I’m in remission. Had I had the back surgery that was not needed, God knows what would’ve happened. I found out many people have this arachnoid web in their back and live their whole lives without even knowing it . He made up his mind… instead of listening to me and running more tests . Even a neurosurgeon in Chicago debunked his diagnosis. He is lacking in any kind of bedside manner and shows complete disrespect for his patients. DON’T go to this “Dr” . Go to a neurosurgeon , who is educated on nerve damage and pain . This guy is a joke . I would leave zero stars , but the site wouldn’t let me . Run in the opposite direction and find a kind , respectful , decent Dr . I honestly don’t know how he’s still in business, because , despite all the good reviews, everyone I talk to who had seen him says he is just downright mean and doesn’t listen to his patients. I dodged a bullet . ( my back is just fine , by the way ,and I’m NOT paralyzed, 3 years later !)

I saw Dr. Curylo for two spinal fusions. Two years after the second operation and I am still in agonizing pain. I continued to go to him to explain my pain, but he finally was like - "well, I did my job and that's all I can do." He didn't listen to me and his office staff was horrible. Candy would not even return my calls and was slow on everything but billing. This was the greatest mistake of my life. I wish I had never had these surgeries.

I found Dr. Curylo has a habit of not wanting to completely listen to the information being give to him by his patient. He was unwilling to fight the insurance company for his patient in order to get the testing he deemed necessary to determine the best course of action for back pain treatment. I had called Dr. Curylo's office several times to find out if the test had been approved and was told that they were still waiting for a response. I finally called the insurance company myself and found out that the information had been sent to the wrong department. I informed the nurse in charge of ordering testing that the request needed to be sent to a different department and gave her the contact information. The insurance company came back with a standard response that they were rejecting permission for the test due to I hadn't had physical therapy within the last 90 days. I had already had physical therapy that didn't help. Pain management spine injections 3 times that didn't help. … I was now on morphine and Vicodin to help the pain.The intent of seeing Dr. Curylo was to see if there was anything that could relieve the pain without narcotics. When I was told by Dr. Curylo's nurse that the test had been refused and that I needed to have physical therapy and that there was nothing he was able to do. I explained to her the whole series of events that led me to his office and that physical therapy had not worked, she told me to take it up with the insurance company. When I contacted the insurance company and explained the issue to them. They told me that they would need a peer to peer review in order to justify the scan. I relayed the information back to Dr. Curylo's nurse and she started that she would let the doctor know. A few days later I was contacted by Dr. Curylo's nurse and told that the doctors notes stated that after the peer to peer review, that the scan was still refused. His notes stated that I should get physical therapy in an attempt to receive relief. I asked for Dr. Crylo to call me and explain what had happened during the peer to peer review. He called me back later that day and told me that there was nothing he could do without the scan of my back and if I wanted to, to go see a pain management doctor. I told him that pain management had referred me to him. He wasn't really interested in taking to me. He stated in a sarcastic way that he would be glad to order the back scan if I wanted to pay for it out of pocket. He never offered to suggest any other options. I would NOT recommend him to anyone that is needing a doctor to listen to them and if necessary, help them go to bat for them against the insurance company bureaucracy. He and his staff rank very low on efficiency and caring.

Extremely prepared for me as a new patient, had researched my surgical history, reviewed extensive information forms, spent quite a bit of time with me and called me immediately after I had my tests done to let m e know what he had found. This should be the standard for all doctors with their patients!

Have had 2 neck surgeries with Dr Curylo. Saw him today. Explained further, seem to have genuine concern for me, set my mind at ease. Felt much better after being with him . No question, would recommend him 100%. If you need a Ortho physician/surgeon, see him! He is in a new location with new staff. All went great. Nice people!

Just had 3 level spinal surgery and a fusion. Excellent surgeon and very minimal post op pain...mostly scar only. Total relief of burning and electrical pains in legs and feet. Thank you for giving me my life back Dr. Curylo.

Dr. Curylo did an excellent job on my surgery, with an immediate improvement in my pain level. He was informative, kind, and patient. Spinal fusion surgery can be frightening - he helped me set aside my fear and do what was right for my long term health, without pressure..

He misdiagnosed my illness. He performed an unnecessary surgery. He doesn't listen. There is no follow up. Once he gets his money he could care less about his patients.

Surgery delayed due to inefficiency of office staff and his travel out of town, meanwhile my function continued to get worse. Besides being cold and unfeeling, after surgery I found out my problem was not fully corrected and function continued to deteriorate. I'm sorry I ever went to him.
