Dr. Mark Christopher Austin, MD

Dr. Austin was rushed and abrupt. He barely greeted me. I mentioned the 2 other issues I wanted to talk about when I booked the appointment and he didn’t ask anything about them, made inaccurate assumptions and just started talking about a referral to a surgeon. He was impatient wen I struggled to identify minute differences in views during my exam, to the point that he said, “for the 6th time”, as he flipped between the views. I had to remind him of a lump in the corner of my eye that I wanted to address; he would have just left the room after the exam had I not reminded him to look at it. After he finally felt what I was referring to, when he finally listened to me and stopped assuming he knew what I was talking about, he dismissed this too and just talked more about a surgeon. I went to an ophthalmologist specifically because I needed more than just an exam but I might as well have gone to LensCrafters for what he provided. I won’t ever go back there.

It was my first time seeing Dr Austin and my last! His assistants do all the work, then he comes in. I needed answers to some vision questions and he became edgy and rude not wanting it appeared, to take time to answer my questions. I opted out of the refractive $40 test, yet they billed my Ins co for the test. I will never go back there.

I am 70 year old retired LEO (Deputy Sheriff - Wisconsin) And a close friend (Special Agent -DOJ) whom I have worked with and known for over 35 years, who referred me to Dr. Austin. My diminishing eye sight and cataracts had finally won out. So it was time to arrest the condition! After meeting with Dr. Austin and discussing a plan of attack I become comfortable with him addressing my condition and treatment for it! (Note he IS a very busy Dr. and really doesn't have time for general chit-chat) so for those who need a 1/2 hour of Greetings and Salutations? Dr. Austin is NOT your go to Specialist! But as to a highly skilled and very direct Doctor --- Dr. Austin is absolutely the perfect specialist to CORRECT your vision problems! I absolutely TRUSTED him with correcting both eyes back to a near perfect 20/20 vision!!! If I was still in the Profession? I also would trust him backing me with ANY LE action (including Felony Stops/Arrests) if needed! Bottom line is: BRAVO Dr. Austin!!!

I have seen Dr. Austin a handful of times over the past 3 years. My latest visit was for an emergency visit, for right eye pain that was rather alarming. I have high praise for his office assistants, you were caring and compassionate and attentive to the fact that I was concerned for my vision. Dr. Austin on the other hand, while effective in lining me up with a solution, was rude, arrogant and offensive. He would not allow me to interact with him, to explain my concerns, or even answer direct questions put to him. Instead, he "slammed his services" on me, as though I was an ignorant person who had no right to engage him in an intelligent exchange about my health, for which I am in charge of, with his help. He was disdainful and treated me as though I should be glad that he bestowed his wisdom on me and that I should shut up and just be grateful. In fact he mentioned that he squeezed me into his schedule, as though that would make a difference on the quality of care he offered? … I tried to explain that I just wanted to understand, but he did not want to hear it....just process me and move on to the next, like a machine. I am quite certain that Dr. Austin is extremely competent in his medical specialty but that does NOT excuse this type of behavior. A key differentiating factor in health care in the manner in which is delivered. In that area he is unfortunately, a total failure. I will not be going back.

Follow up? Ha! He didn't even care enough to introduce himself to me .

DR AUSTIN IS VERY RUDE AND DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE CHANCE TO ASK QUESTIONS OR EVEN EXPLAIN TO HIM ABOUT A CONDITION YOU MIGHT THINK YOU HAVE. HE IS VERY SHORT TEMPERED ALSO. WOULD NOT RECOMEND HIM
