Dr. Matthew James Bengard, MD

Was disappointed in his service today. While he did offer a cortisone shot he felt that analyzing the ultrasound of my wrist he said was useless information and did not tell me what they showed. His demeanor was not condusive to what I feel is doctoral repor. He stated that his job was to give the client what they wanted not for him to do anything. That we the patient was to tell him what to do.

I told him my wrist hurts bad. Got no answers. Wouldn't talk about pain other than it lived in the mind.

This doctor was arrogant and didn't feel the need to answer questions that I had about my condition. He left the room without talking to me about my options. Dr. Bengard spoke to me as if I were ignorant. A total waste of my time and money.

Dr. Bengard was professional and helpful. I appreciated him staying to the point, rather than humming around. I would definitely recommend him.

Staff got to us in a timely manner. Once in a room the Dr treated us with kindness, was very respectful and efficient. He answered all our questions and made sure to explain things in a simple manner we could relate and understand. He had a schedule a follow up and helped reassure us he was interested in helping us through this experience. We didn’t feel like another “job”. Definitely would recommend to family or friends.

I'm sure that Dr. Bengard is very competent as a Dr. and Surgeon. He was helpful to me in some ways in terms of guiding me in the right direction. Unfortunately, I found his "bedside manner" really unacceptable. His outward over-confidence actually seemed quite arrogant, disrespectful and dismissive to me. I'm used to working with health professionals that are interactive and collaborative in their approach. With Dr. Bengard I felt that I was being talked down to, (literally and figuratively, as my chair was far lower than his stool!) Competence is wonderful but without kindness, compassion and mutual respect it lacks humanity. I would not recommend him if you are looking for an equal partnership in your healing. He is very knowledgeable and discovered something my original surgeon MISSED which now requires another surgery! I just went in for a “wellness check” on my hand! I think Southern Oregon Orthopedics has doctors in all fields.
