Dr. Melissa Anne Appleton, MD

Saw this doctor during an extended hospital stay. She did nothing at all. Originally diagnosed in the ER by a resident, w/a drug reaction, which was incorrect. The illness had been going on for weeks prior to taking one dose of the drug. I kept asking for help. Finally, I asked to be released and contacted the patient advocate. That actually got some care started. Dr. Appleton came in person, sat at the other side of the room and said I had what I was diagnosed with. and didn't know why I needed anything. She also didn't know my symptoms, that I had a fever, that I'd been sick for weeks up to this date. All she knew was the diagnosis on the front page. Never looked at my chart. Instead, when I told her I had a fever, even now, she said I was wrong. I proved it. I told her I'd been sick for nearly a month, she said she wasn't aware of that. I asked for some tests, at least a lyme disease or something. I'd been laying there sick for 7 days. She said I didn't need any… tests. She apparently didn't even notice all the issues w/the blood tests that had been done while in the hospital, and I only found out those results later. So, after 7 days in the hospital w/them doing nothing, finally, some tests were done, just a couple by her, and then some other tests, no thanks to her. She didn't care, was rude, and was only there because patient advocate called her. I was there 9 days. Finally left the hospital and was sick for another month. A few later, after going partially blind from toxoplasmosis, doctors determined that my toxo was a recurrence of an infection that occurred several years ago, probably when I was sick for two months and 9 days in the hospital under this doctor's care, or should I say, lack of care. In spite of all the symptoms, she never tested for this common disease. The disease, most of the time, can be handled w/no aftereffects. But in some people w/autoimmune conditions it can be devastating. If she had checked for and treated at that time, maybe I wouldn't have gone partially blind, or had the other recurrences of toxo over the years that have caused problems. Not only that, because toxo can attack any organ at any time, you never know if that's your problem or something else is causing problems. I do not recommend this doctor for anything.

Dr Appleton hung in with us to find what was causing my husband to be so sick. She is great. We highly recommend her.

Melissa Appleton is a rude and terrible physician. She is never polite and is terrible to work with.
