Dr. Michael Allen Hellwege, MD

If you are going to service the elderly population, I think you should be sensitive to those who are hard of hearing. It's not that difficult to look directly at the patient and talk louder. Instead, Dr. Hellwege chose to treat my father (the patient) as if he was not even in the room when he would ask him to repeat something. To give one example, my father asked him to repeat a question about his heart medication. Instead of repeating himself, Dr. Hellwege just waved both his arms in the air and went on to discuss something else. I gently said, you can ask my father, you just need to speak louder and Dr. Hellwege responded poorly to this as well. I would like my father to have been treated with more dignity as a patient. It is hard enough for my father to admit when he needs repetition. Being treated as a nuisance by Dr. Hellwege does not help.

Dr Hellwege is a straightforward no nonsense kind of doctor. He is very professional but he does have a very compassionate side that I saw when he did my biopsy for breast cancer. If you are looking for a doctor that wants to tell you what you want to hear find someone else. He is a great surgeon and knows his stuff and is always one step ahead of you . Would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Hellwege time is extremely important, so if you expect him to spend more than a minute in the same room examining you, just forget it. If you have a question do not expect him to answer it, you should be ashamed of yourself for even questioning him or wasting his time, he is a Doctor. Some people say he is rude, self-centered, and arrogant and are probably right. Therefore, if you wish to be treated like a human with respect, and have someone take the time and answer your questions and not process you like cattle I strongly suggest you find another Doctor. Whether or not if he is a good surgeon or not I cannot say but I can assure you with his mannerism he will not be preforming any surgery on me. It is a shame you have to give him at least one star, but you have to or it will not let you rate your true experience.

Dr hellwege is very blunt and tells u how it is! Great doctor over all.

Dr. Hellwege is a great Dr. I had a abnormal connection between my colon and my kidney and he corrected my problem. He was very kind and very caring. He did not sugar coat anything and he did it without being rude. Dr. Hellwege and his staff were very professional and very kind and I would encourage who ever needs surgery to see them...Thanks Dr. Hellwege and staff.. Thanks for everything!!!

Dr Hellwege was able to do Esaphageal surgery on me and after 4 years of struggling to hold food down, I could finally eat with ease. He took out my Gall Bladder, he has just repaired a incisional Hernia whereas he got in there and had more work than expected to do and he Aced it, he always spends alot of time explaing and LISTENING to me, I never won't another surgeon . He is the Best !

Dr. H has done two procedures on me and both were a good experience. (Not great as who likes to be cut on.) He was very professional and has a comforting bedside manor. Both times I was sedated so I did not feel the procedure and the follow up was very informative. I would recommend him as I trust him.
