Dr. Paul Victor Spiegl SR., MD

Husband was under care of Spiegl from 2022 until Perimeter Orthopedics shuttered its doors with no notice 11/16/23. No referral and he never released medical records. Husband underwent 4 surgeries then when his practice collapsed Spiegl undid everything and x-rays looked like day 1 before 1st surgery. There was no aftercare following removal of hardware. My husband saw Spiegl for “dislocated toe”. Since Spiegl closed his doors my husband had been hospitalized 8 times. He was bedridden for 1-year. On 11/6/25 my husband was left with no option but to undergo a below knee amputation. Do not under any circumstances allow him to operate on you. His profile picture is probably 10 years old; he is older. My husband is completely blind, our business is failing because all of the complications resulting from Spiegl. When he was in pre-op 11/6/25 all I said was orthopedic surgeons practice failed and the nurses collectively said under their breath “Spiegl”. How many other patients fell into our… situation for everyone in surgery center to say “Spiegl”. My husband is now a bilateral below knee amputee after allowing Spiegl to try to repair his big toe. Spiegl was probably a good surgeon a decade ago but nearing 80 time has passed him by

I have had a problem with my achilles tendons, both left and right, where the achilles attaches to my heel. In both instances, I went through an extensive PT regimen to try to get it to resolve but neither healed with therapy and anti-inflammatories. Dr. Spiegl, decided in both instances that a shock wave treatment might heal my heels. Although it was not covered by insurance, which is unfortunate, in both cases it healed my extremely painful heels. It is amazing that this treatment was so effective for me when it is not considered for approval by medicare or insurance. Dr. Spiegl said that it has healed 80-90% of his patients with this issue. Fantastic result. Dr Spiegl is fairly quiet, thoughtful, contemplative, responsive and caring. He knows feet and ankles for sure! There are minor office issues but this rating is for my orthopedic treatment and care.

A follow up review on how I was left after having Dr. Spiegl operate on my foot in May of 2015. Damage was done during surgery #1. P.A. informed me nerves had been "clipped" leaving my foot paralyzed. Then the office phlebotomist, not the cast expert, did my first cast change and cut off the circulation to my toes. 18 months later a neurologist, who Dr. Spiegl claims no knowledge of, yet his name is listed as being referred to by Dr. Spiegl, diagnosed me with RSD/CRPS, damage to my nervous system. Records from the testing were falsified, blaming my paralyzed foot was coming from a bad back. They let my Statute of Limitations run out. I asked Dr. Spiegl to explain to my husband what we could expect in the future with this rare condition. He told my husband he knew it was painful but had no other knowledge. My husband took his word for it and doesnt understand the severity of this condition. I eventually discovered he was an expert witness in a workers comp case during the same time he… was treating me, the women had RSD/CRPS. He changed my life. My leg muscles are shrinking, I have a severe limp, horrific spasms in my foot and leg. I can't wear shoes. I will be unable to walk eventually when my legs will no longer hold me up. The pain is severe 24/7. My "sympathetic nervous system" is permanently damaged, this operates all your internal organs. Your stomach, heart, circulation, eyes, skin, everything inside. I eventually discovered the P.A. who told me this occurred was working with a lapsed license from the medical board. They had no record he ever worked for Dr. Spiegl. I am left to care for myself going forward with no financial assistance for treatments, living assistance, (I can no longer dress myself) the constant pain, most treatments are not covered by insurance, I'm unable to participate in anything that any other person is free to do. I stay home. I wished I died that day on his operating table instead of having to live the rest of my life useless to my family, my grandchildren, my friends. The Georgia Medical Board is a fraud. It found my concerns and complaint were not warranted. Yet it's against the law, according to the Board, to work in an operating room with a lapsed license. If you think something went wrong during any type of surgery by any surgeon, don't believe when you're told you have to be patient and wait for improvement. As quickly as possible try to find an attorney. No human should have to go thru this and not have the person responsible accountable for it.......

I suggest you look elsewhere if you want to see the orthopedic and not just a Physician Assistant. Things have changed since the early and mid 90's when I saw Spiegl and he was a great orthopedic, my wife recently had 2 visits and never saw Spiegl about her ankle injury she only saw the PA who in my opinion aint that good nor that bright, now I am looking for another Orthopedic and may just take her to Washington DC where I grew up and take her to Georgetown University Orthopedic Group where 10 years ago an other PA in Atlanta misdiagnosed my neck problem even after an MRI as muscle spasm and Georgetown found the problem with simple x-rays as bone spurs... 3 days later I had surgery there and my neck problem disappeared...My opinion is PA's are just glorified nurse's and we never got passed the one at Spiegl's office to see him...look elsewhere if you want to see the real orthopedic. Shame is Spiegl was awesome back in the 90's

Every time you have an appointment with this doctor you have to wait hours then they call you to the back room where you have to wait at least 45 more minutes and the room is cold no TV and no magazines. A few days before my surgery they said they had to move my surgery up a couple hours because he had another surgery he wants to do before mine they do not understand that it is hard enough to find a driver during the day that is able to transport you. The morning of the surgery they put me in a gown hooked up an IV into my arm and put me on a gurney and I tell you not, at least 8 hours later after laying their anxious and nervous he comes out and says he cannot do my surgery today he is too tired. Do you think I was just a little angry? People... Go somewhere else!

Dr. Spiegl performed 5 hour surgery on my Left foot to remove 2 bunions and fix 3 hammer toes. The pre-op care, surgery care and post-op care was exceptional. His team provide exceptional care and always treated me with respect. I am planning to have Dr.Spiegl repair my Right foot this year and wouldn't recommend anyone else.

When I first went to see Dr. Speigl I was put in two "supposed walking casts." Which would continuously break. I would have to cut them off. Drive 2.5 hours to have them replace the casts at $1200. per cast. I couldn't get his incompetent casting tech to strengthen the cast. Speaking with other patients I found they had the same problem. At the end of the 6 weeks after the imaging was done they attempted to recast me. The Dr or staff couldn't give me a good reason to recast me. The Dr. Is out for the money if you are seeing this dr you need to find a new dr. I tried to tell anyone that would listen that I has an infection in my foot and they said it's supposed to smell that way, it's a sign of it healing. I have had open wounds In my foot for over two years. When i left Dr. Speigls practice he told me i would have to find two specialists, a orthopedic surgeon and a wound Dr. Thank God I did because that infection I tried to tell them I had was a bone infection. I was just about ready… to have my foot amputated when I saw an amazing infectious disease Dr. That asked me to let him try and clear the infection. If I hadn't left Dr. Speigls and found an amazing wound Dr. who sent me to a infectious disease Dr. I would be an amputee.

The first time I saw him I waited 5 hours, to be told he had to leave for a family emergency. I saw his PA instead who advised that I needed surgery. The day of surgery his PA walked in and said they would have to do tomorrow because Dr. Spiegel had to be somewhere. I should have cancelled...after the surgery I became worse and stiff. His PAs see you after surgery and you won't see him again. Be prepared for weekly expensive cast changes, and extensive wait times. I finally healed after one year... A surgery that should have taken 6 weeks. He has no bedside manner and is rude if you have questions. Very disappointed and still frustrated. Would not recommend. His staff is constantly networking socially and will talk about you behind your back.

I had ankle surgeon in 2009 Dr. Paul Speigl is nothing like the negative reviews. He called me several times after my surgery. He took his time with me ran several diagnostic test... Thank God for an honest Dr like him. I would recommend everyone to him!!!

at 1st appt, Dr. Spiegl was a no show, called out unexpectedly. Saw assistant who seemed ok. at follow up appt, had to wait over 1 hour. could see and hear Dr. Spiegl leisurely chatting with another physician while i waited. All of the staff seemed more interested in socializing than in patient care. Once i was seen by the doctor, he spent a minimal about of time with me and provided no real helpful information other than to buy his orthotics. i am still having numbness and tingling in my foot, so problem has not been addressed and i will have to go elsewhere for help.
