Dr. Richard Kyu Nam Ryu, MD

My first encounter with Dr. Ryu was 24 hours after I made a call to get an appointment. I knew within a couple of minutes that this was the doctor that I wanted to have as my surgeon. He listened and informed me of my choices regarding my injury. I needed to have imaging performed and that occurred the day after my initial consult. The speed of the whole process for was mind blowing after dealing with Doctors in Marin County and having to wait 2-3 months. I could not be happier with the results post surgery and I am back to doing almost all of the activities I was missing out on while injured. I would highly recommend Dr. Ryu as a surgeon, he is a rock star in my book. The staff at his office is super friendly and competent in a world that seems to lack it. Dr. Ryu just did my second labrum repair after returning to my college basketball season and retearing it once again. Unfortunately this surgery took me out of the game for good but I would not want anyone else to do this procedure but Dr.Ryu. He is an amazing surgeon and has got me feeling stronger and better than ever. His entire staff is so friendly and amazing and I would recommend him and his office anyday.

Dr. Ryu repaired my ruptured Patella Tendon and cleaned up the Meniscus on my other knee. Almost no pain from the surgeries and recovery went very fast. Office staff is GREAT too.

Hello all looking for a doctor! I tore my meniscus really badly, grade two sprains on other ligaments and tibial spine fracture on my right knee. I was playing college basketball at the time and was seriously concerned if I would ever be able to play/run again. I went to multiple doctors each one with a different analysis of the injury, but all overall unsure on the procedure and effects from it. When I went to Dr. Ryu, I hadn't walked in over 3 weeks and was in a lot of pain. The staff was fantastic as the center, accommodating and understanding as I crutched in. While Dr. Ryu can seem short and to the point, his knowledge on the topic is unmatched. In about 5-10 minutes, he told me the problem, what he was going to do, and the end result if everything goes well. This gave me confidence that I was going to walk and hopefully play sports again. While this seemed fast at the time, with pictures of Kobe and Jerry West with Dr. Ryu on the wall, I was confident I was in good hands.… Also tons of accreditation's that was impressive. Overall, it has been about a year and 3 months from surgery. Most doctors told me I would not ever be the same. Dr. Ryu changed that reality and I feel as strong as ever. I cannot thank him enough because I truly think I wouldnt be in as great of a position without his help. While Dr. Ryu can be short in conversations (saw in other comments) do not take this for uncaring or incompetency. It is the method he operates his practice and his results speaks for itself. Also, each bad review was people that didnt get surgery, just people that had a visit and left. You cannot beat Dr. Ryu with a joint injury.

My experience with Ryu ended in setback, delay and possible increasing risk of further injury to my shoulder / rotator cuff. -- Extremely poor communication protocol. I could not guess that this is an experienced physician. It's as if I was working with an inexperienced contractor hired to work on my house.

50 year old guy with a full torn acl. With a new technique, Dr. Ryu repaired vs replaced my acl. Recovery, rehab, and pain-free was much faster. Running & biking a few months later; strong knee. Awesome Surgeon !!!

Dr. Ryu repaired my right rotator cuff over 15 years ago and my left one last Fall (of 2018). Both shoulders are pain free and I'm doing all of the activities I enjoyed prior to the injuries. He will not coddle you - he takes his work very seriously and expects you to take your rehab the same. If you listen to him, be patient and perform your exercises you have a chance of excellent results, like I am enjoying.

I’m a man of few words but I will say this about my experience having had arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder.The summit surgery center is first class and the staff are kind and very professional.Dr.Ryu is the classic Surgeon in the sense of efficiency and no nonsense.If you want warm and fuzzy and need coddling he’s not your guy.But if you want a top drawer surgeon that is super efficient and you are willing to follow his guidance,he is your man.I’m seven months out from surgery and golfing two times a week pain free.Thanks Dr.Ryu!

I was diagnosed with a torn ACL. After years of playing sports in the area, I have heard of Dr Ryu’s name on numerous occasions and they were always positive. I called his office for an appointment and immediately received one for the following day. I already had an MRI and Dr Ryu reviewed it and gave me my options. He was very consice and informative and his office was able to schedule the surgery a week later at the Premier surgery center nearby. The staff at the surgery center were very polite, professional and helpful. After the surgery, I received very specific instructions from Dr Ryu and a referral to a physical therapist. Between my PT appointments and my follow up visits with Dr Ryu, I received specific rehab instructions from each and each were identical in content, making it very easy to understand and follow. During my entire experience with Dr Ryu, his office staff, the physical therapist and the surgery center, I was extremely happy with all aspects of the… process. If I had questions about the various processes, the questions were answered to my satisfaction. I would recommend Dr Ryu, his office staff, the Premier Surgery center and the physical therapist to future patients. L
