Dr. Steven R Shepherd, DO

I've been seeing Dr. Shepherd for about 8 years. He is the most through and meticulous doctor I've ever encountered. I have 100% confidence in his assessments and advice. He also shows a genuine concern for the health of his patients.

I have been seeing Dr. Shepherd for about 20 years. I live in Alpena and still drive the 4 hours to see him. He takes time to listen, evaluate, and take the necessary steps to get me back to the feeling top notch. If he can't do it, he makes sure I go to the best specialists there are. I love seeing Dr. Shepherd because I know I'm going to get top notch care from a doc who can put two and two together. I trust Dr. Shepherd with the tough stuff, and for him to listen to me and take my fears into consideration. My whole family goes there and they love him too.

Took my father here as a new GP when dads mental status started to slip. Was referred to about 5 doctors for findings that were known, but because this office didn't communicate I ran him to several doctors over months only to have him going down hill the entire time, for chasing finding that had nothing to do with his current conditions. After 6 months with no real treatment just an endless series of tests I decided to take dad elsewhere. This office still calls me to get dad in for CT's and follow ups like he is a car and not a human. Never once asking how dad was doing. Also, all the referrals were met with doctors who had no idea why dad was there & because this office doesn't communicate with family well nor the office being referred , I had very little idea why I was at some of these specialists. It seems that medicine has almost nothing to do with people anymore. Just feel this place has no direction.

I myself am a healthcare professional and know what to look for in a physician. Some of the things I like about Dr. Shepherd is that he actually spends time with his patients and listens to them. Many doctors are on a time crunch and are in and out of the examination room so quickly it's like they were never there at all. Dr. Shepherd is not like this. I also like that he is very thorough and allows input from his patients on their care.

Have been a patient of Dr. Shep for over 25 years. Wouldn't trust anyone else. Great listener, follow through, considers all potential causes of an illness. Well connected when you need to go to a specialist. If he recommends someone, you can trust his opinion,
