Dr. Terry Wesley Pinson, MD

When I had my gastric sleeve surgery in 2016, I was his 5th surgery out of 9 for that day. After the surgery, I was in so much pain I couldn’t lie back. Every time I would pass out from the effects of the anesthesia, I would sit straight back up and moan and hollar in pain. When the nurses brought me to my room after the surgery, I was sitting straight up in the bed, and they told my family “we don’t know why she’s like this. She came up here like this.” I was in terrible pain from my waist to my neck. They gave me all pf the pain medicine they could. Finally, about 7 or 8 hours later, the doctor came to do his mandatory post-op visit. He stayed about 30 seconds, said nothing about the pain or anything else, and left. I saw him very briefly one more time the next day very briefly. When I went for my 2 week check up and every visit after that for the next 7 months, I told them about the pain I continued to have on my left side. He always ignored it until I got a little more insistent… at about 6 months. That’s when he ordered a scan of my gall bladder ( even though I had no pain in my right side). He was the doctor, so I agreed. When I went back to see him for the results, I asked the nurse first what the scan showed. She said it said I had 1 pre-stone. But the first words out of the doctor’s mouth when he entered the room were “you need your gall bladder taken out.” When I asked him why, he told me because I had a gall stone. When I told him I knew it was only one pre-stone, I felt like it was the first time he really looked at me. He said we could just watch it for a while but it would probably have to come out. Then, for the first time, he asked me where my pain was. I pointed to my left side above where my stomach was. That’s when he diagnosed me with lactose Intolerance. I had no dairy for the next month and I did feel better a lot of the time, but I still had pain every time my stomach was empty and every time it was full. I went back to see him one more time, and it was so obvious he could care less about anything I had to say, I never went back. That was almost 4 years ago. I lost about 50 pounds after the surgery and I haven’t gained much back. I’ve learned to deal with the discomfort and it has gotten better. I don’t regret having the surgery, just the surgeon.

I was treated unfairly by Dr. Pinson. They really give you the run-around and drag things out for a long time until you are exhausted. He is the only one who does this type of surgery in Tupelo and he knows it. Very distracting.

I truly feel that this doctor, and his staff, are more concerned about the volume of patients they treat, rather than the quality of individual patient care. I was unfortunate to develop complications with surgery wounds not healing properly, mainly due to Dr. Penson’s rough tactics. He was also dismissive and seemingly unconcerned, saying he didn’t know exactly what was wrong, but hoped I would eventually “get better”. Then, an associate of his insulted me by implying I was the type who abused weight loss surgery procedures by asking, “So, what’s next?” It wasn’t until months later, with advocacy from my daughter who lives in Texas, that I was able to meet a qualified and caring doctor who repaired the wound damage done by Dr Penson, which allowed me to finally heal. I cannot, and WOULD NOT, recommend this doctor and his practice. ?

Dr. Pinson has done several surgeries for me. All of them have gone well and he has the best bedside manner. Can't say enough good things about him. He always spends a lot of time explaining everything to you in an easy to understand manner.

Dr. Pinson refused to do my surgery due to the fact I can't exercise vigorously yet he has a multitude of patients who are on walkers and some who are too large to exercise.

I feel Dr. Pinson is one of the best surgeons in this area! I would return to him in a heartbeat if I needed to!

Top notch doctor with a concern for his patients!

Dr. Pinson is truly the best surgeon in the state of Mississippi in my humble opinion. He is caring and approachable....he is down to earth and discusses your care in a logical manner. He is excellent...and I so glad I was able to find him.

Dr. Pinson has found his true calling in medicine. He is professional, provides excellent, above average care and compassion. His mission is improving the health and life outcomes of his patients ~ he believes and is passionate about what he is doing for his patient population. He makes you feel like you are valued as a human and as his patient. He is available, as is his staff, for support, questions, and any possible problems you might have. Surgical outcome was excellent and follow up care is more than can be asked for in the two years since my surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Pinson and his clinic.
