Dr. Valerie Lyn Burkhard, MD

I found this woman to be very condescending, cold, and totally lacking in social skills. She lied right to my face when I mentioned 3 lumbar surgeries and she immediately said "back surgeries are not connected to urinary incontinence. I know better! I went for initial visit and will be canceling the future appointments tomorrow. I would not recommend her to my worst enemy!

Was recommended to see this urologist and waited for weeks to get an appointment . When she came into the office she made no eye contact and said her name and said “how can I help you”? Bed side manner was horrible. She barely spoke , made little eye contact, looked less than happy to be there, and was an hour late for my appointment. I had to ask her questions about what MY problems could be. She offered me little options and was in the room for maybe 10 min max. I asked her if there are other alternative options she said “I recommend nothing that’s not approved by the fda”. She’s open to nothing obviously than medication and or has no experience. Such a bummer I had high hopes with a new urologist being a woman hoping to have compassion. Wouldn’t suggest if you’re looking for a second visit.

This doctor seems knowlegable and skilled. Very nice and helpful in describing need for tests and surgery, and answered my questions. But the process could have been more timely. Also at follow up visit she was not friendly. Was like a different doctor. She hardly talked to me and didn't mention some important info I found later. Her staff is nice.

Dr. Burkhard is thorough and patient. She didn't give up when the issue was not resolved with usual course of treatment but adjusted and responded. She listens very well and is sympathetic to other issues that may be impinging on health.

She was friendly and thorough. Explained everything to me and put me at ease. I would recommend her to family and friends.

If this doctor tells you TURP surgery is the only treatment, obtain a second opinion at a facility such as the Cleveland Clinic. They did a more thorough workup of me than Dr. Burkhart. Minimally invasive prostate surgery is available, unfortunately all urologists are not trained in them and find it easier to perform the TURP, which requires hospitalization and general anesthesia. New surgical techniques usually originate at the top hospitals like the CC, Mayo, John Hopkins ,NY Presbyterian, UCLA, and others. They are slow to be adopted in places like Buffalo.

The physician was rude and dismissive. Clearly did not want to pursue non-invasive options....pushed for invasive procedures. Treated an 85 year old woman as if she were a child and not capable of making decisions concerning her health care. Walked into the room without knocking and promptly addressed the patient by her given name and introduced herself as "Doctor Burkhardt". This offended the patient. When I corrected her, she shot me a dirty look. This young woman needs a lesson in respect and bedside manners. I would never recommed her.

She only works 1 day in each office. After inital visit you don't get to see her, you see the PA. Her communication skills lack greatly. Other than that very nice person.

Our experience with this Doctor was not good. She was distant, unfreindly, not available during a crisis, unwilling to treat a patient with multiple issues.She also was very mean on a phone call and changed the diagnosis in that converstation saying the patient was telling her one thing and her family another. I was there for the diagnisis and KNOW what she said. Also has had no further suggestions for help concerning the issue we went to her for. We will nto return to her.
