Dr. William F Cothern, DO

At my brief consultation appointment, I emphasized my concerns about small veins on my nose, especially - and the obvious veins on my cheeks. Cothern assured me that a single treatment would probably be adequate, though I could have others, if needed. He never touched my nose; it looks exactly like it did before laser treatment, which DID NOT TOUCH my nose. I am now more than 5 weeks post-procedure, so my healing from laser treatment for facial spider veins is complete. The veins on my cheeks are about half gone; it's obvious that nothing more is going to "resolve"- weasel word for "might get better, might not". I will not go back.

First things first, the lady at the front desk didn't even respond (perhaps not audibly at least) to my greeting as I was signing in, which is rude. The wait time was fairly standard, maybe 20 minutes. The doctor may be good at what he does, but his bedside manner leaves much to be desired. He didn't even say hello to me when he walked in the room. I felt like he must think he is either a vet and I'm a dog or he is a medical examiner and I am a cadaver, thus no need to speak, let alone make pleasant small talk.

Always a long wait but gives you plenty of time when you see him. Professional and really nice assistants

I would not recommend this doctor. First, the carpet was in desperate need of cleaning. That did not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the whole practice. Then I waited an hour. 30 minutes in the waiting room and 30 minutes with a paper towel draped over me in the exam room. I finally put my clothes on, went to the front desk and told them to cancel my appointment and the reason why I was leaving. The girl behind the desk looked up at me and said 'ok'. That was it! No apology, nothing. I will never go back!!!

I went to Dr. Cothern about recent stretch marks caused from pregnancy. First, I waited in the waiting room for an hour. When I was finally called back, I informed him that I was 5 weeks postpartum and breastfeeding. Dr. Cothern still prescribed me tazorac and only spoke to me for maybe five minutes. When I got home I researched the product only to find that it says breastfeeding mothers should NOT take tazorac because it passes into the breastmilk. I was also not informed that birth control should be taken while using this cream because it causes birth defects. If Dr. Cothern cared about his patients, this would not have happened.

I agree with the other poor reviews in that front desk is very nice, but doctor and nurse acted as though they were doing us a big favor to look at both of us a total of about 2 minutes. He never looked at moles anywhere but my face. We are very disappointed in our appointment with this doctor and will now have to find and pay for another dermatologist visit.

I've had three visits with Dr. Cothern by referral from my PCP. From the very first visit, he seemed extremely disinterested, He hardly talked to me at all, much less looked at me. He just asked me what was wrong, wrote a prescription and was in the next patient's room before I could even shake his hand.Same with the second visit. The third visit we had decided to get a procedure cleared through insurance and his office told me not to call, but they would call me the next week to inform me of how the process is going. I waited THREE weeks... and decided to call. They told me that Dr. Cothern never gave them my paper work so they would start the process immediately and that it would be FOUR MORE WEEKS before I would hear back. The wait list to see any other doctor is WORTH IT!

Dr. Cothern is quite proud of his skills, and his rates clearly affirm that. After having a wart removed I received a statement from my insurance company stating that Dr. Cothern submitted a bill for $350! Yes, $350 for 2 minutes of his time to perform one of the most common procedures in dermatology.I sought understanding as to why this bill was so high and the folks at Dr. Cothern's office could only respond by telling me they hadn't done anything illegal or not excepted in the healthcare industry. Um, yeah, that's precisely what's wrong with the healthcare industry!So, I paid in full the exorbitant fees and politely told Dr. Cothern that I will never be coming back. I've had this procedure done by other dermatologists in the past at 25% of his cost.Dr. Cothern, stop contributing to the problems of the American healthcare system!

Was referred by another doctor to get my moles checked out. Wait time was fine, front desk staff was ok... Dr Cothern looked over my moles for about 2 minutes. Didn't take pictures, didn't take notes. Told me to wear sunscreen. Told me to come back in a year, but only after I asked how often he'd like to check me.Maybe I'm just used to more thorough dermatologists, but I'd expect any decent dermatologist to spend an extra 5 minutes taking pictures of suspicious moles (I have four or five) in order to keep track of how quickly they're changing. This guy seemed more concerned with getting in and out than really spending time with me.Routine checkups are quick, I get that, but this was absurd.

Seems like I'm not the only one who has had issues with Dr. Cothern and his staff. He seemed very hurried, barely shook my hand, let alone even look me in the eye. He was in and out in less than 10 minutes. To make things even worse, the office manager in charge of payment and insurance claims was the rudest person I have ever encountered! I kept receiving a bill for my services that stated my insurance policy wasn't valid and I owed them several hundred dollars immediately. I spoke with the office manager, she verified my group/policy # and said they still denied the claim they sent, that her office made no mistakes and I owe them the money immediately. When I tried discussing it further, she was rude, insulting, kept talking over me and said *I* should have been more responsible in paying my bill. What?!?! I verified my policy with my insurance company and they tried calling Dr. Cothern's office themselves. No answer. No call back. In addition, the bill I got from the lab… was also not paid. I resolved things with the lab but it would turn out that the insurance info the lab had for me was sent from Dr. Cothern's office...and it was completely wrong! Not even close! Still trying to resolve this. I will never come back here and I'll advise everyone I know to avoid this office. All they want is your money whether you have insurance or not and they'll lie and bully patients to get it.
